That's exactly the reason why I posted he committed to MTSU. Butler is the exact type recruit Iona currently needs to add to the roster. The staff was tracking him.

Javion Hamlet going back to JUCO after getting his release from Buffalo. Another kid that would have looked great in a Iona uniform this season, who was also offered by Iona. Not sure if there was any mutual interest like there was with Butler. Oh well, the 2 kids I really wanted are off the board.

Canberk Kus - 6'6" SF from Istanbul, Turkey and the College of Central Florida. He is an athletic kid who has a good handle and can get to the hoop. Has a good hoop IQ, a nice jumper and good timing defensively. Averaging 12.0 ppg and 6.2 rpg. Has offers from Youngstown State, UT-Martin, Montana State, USC Upstate, Austin Peay, Arkansas State and Nichols State. Actually saw this kid play at Victory Rock Prep, a local school which features several international players. (A friend with me, a former UVA star, mentioned at the time that he thought the player would be a good fit at Iona.) Very high court smarts. Kid winds up at Arkansas St with Casey Stanley along with coach from nearby IMG Academy.

Johnnie Vassar, who once was thought to be headed to Iona, as a transfer from Northwestern has signed with Tennessee Tech. Hasn't played any college ball for years.

Andre Paul - 6'1" Combo Guard out of Burke Catholic (NY). He is a very good defender. He averaged 12 points, four assists and four rebounds this past season. Was a BCANY Section 9 Class AA All-Star Selection.

Was a BCANY Section 9 Class AA All-Star Selection. Have no idea how good this kid can be, but the scholarship players better be ready in practice because this kid plays with great intensity and a chip on his shoulder. Combine that with his athleticism and will be a very good practice player. Some pretty impressive dunks. Just shows how good a kid has to be to get a D1 scholarship.

...Just shows how good a kid has to be to get a D1 scholarship. Plus, it says he's going to "attempt" to walk on. Damn.

Viewing the video pieces on J. Serrano and on Andre Paul begs the question in my mind. How good are the guards ahead of these guys that both are relegated to walk-on? It seems to me that, in the not too distant past, we would be jumping through hoops (like the pun?) to see players like these two (Milan, Ibn) sign with Iona. Serrano's game strikes me as a perimeter shooter. Paul is a bull. The kid carries people on his back as he drives to the basket. Agree with the sentiment that people ahead of them better bring their "A" game to practice. Our interior D will be tested with Paul going to the hoop.
