Rothstein with an interesting tweet..."Rountree brings a defensive element that Iona has not had under Cluess, likely starter". Wonder if he spoke to someone on the staff after yesterday's scrimmage.

My question. Who played PG? Iona really doesn't play positions, when you think about it. If you're asking who handles the ball the most, it's going to be AJ. If you're asking who's gonna guard the other team's PG, it's probably Ced.

Any word on who stood out? How did the newcomers do? Did anyone disappoint?

Any word on who stood out? How did the newcomers do? Did anyone disappoint? Washington stood out Great news... especially if he was that dominant against Amdy Fall, NEC’s Defensive Player of the Year last season.

I've seen Rountree play (practice and pick up games) and he's an athletic 6'8 player, who plays on the perimeter. Along with IW at the SF and Washington/Bessick at center, we'll have our best defensive front court in the tenure of TC. And Rountree has shown me, in the few times I've seen him play, that he has an offensive game as well. If TC doesn't go with a four guard offense, I would not be surprised to see him start.

Jeff Goodman @goodmanespn 23h23 hours ago The one fairly consistent thing among the secret scrimmages? LOTS OF FOULS CALLED. Everyone needs to be patient early in year. Again.

ctbill, I am glad to hear lots of fouls called. If the refs remain consistent and not cave-in to the endless whining of the coaches then we should be good. Reducing the clutch and grab defense employed by Manhattan and others to slow teams down will result in either more free throws or fluid play. I would love to see Casimir and English shooting 10+ free throws each. As I have said before if the refs make the calls all year and in the MAAC Tournament then Iona will benefit, but if not then Manhattan and St. Peters benefit with the same old.

Siena is playing an exhibition game tonight against D-2 Indiana-PA. Siena is known to commit a lot of fouls, will be interesting to see how the refs call the game, and how many fouls are actually called in the game. Might even purchase the live stream to finally watch a college basketball game again

Had a interesting conversation over the weekend with a visitor with close knowledge of Iona Basket ball...He stated that motion and speed will be a big makeup of the teams offense... Further, a player new to the team told him after a inter-squad game that he had never been so winded or tired in any scrimmage he had played in his college career.......

Does anyone have any info on McGill? Hows his game look? Last Spring it was said here that he was a Ced upgrade. I hope that's true. If Rountree, Washington, Bessick, and MCGill are all as good as advertised, this team could be like the 2012 at-large team. Maybe better since TC now has more DI experience. It's going to be an interesting season. These days right before the season starts are filled with such anticipation.

Should be fine by end of season once he gets used to D1 expectations.

We still have Ced, AJ, IW, and KA on the perimeter, so they should keep the cold out. And possibly Cluess'best frontcourt ever. Really looking forward to it.
