chelsea, the Gary Springer of his freshman year, DEFINITELY. Injuries played a part in his career, and while not as good in the next three years, he was still a star. Tony starred for all four years, but I do agree that Gary's best year was better than Tony's best year. And, let's face it, we're nitpicking.

Having watched Iona basketball since 1946 I have seen them all.......... Gary Springer Sr. was in his freshman year at a time when Iona was seldom mentioned the Nations freshman of the year.....Thats how good he was.....Only a leg injury kept him from domineering stardom...Even with the injury that left him 75% of his full potential he for the next 3 years was a handfull...At about 6-7, he could do it all...They often say ''Once in a lifetime''...I am sure I have allready seen mine....Gary Springer Sr....

Imagine how many points Burtt senior would have scored if the 3 point goal was in effect when he played.
Or Ruland playing his senior year.
We've been blessed with a hell of a lot of very good players at Iona. Springer senior before his injury was unstoppable.

FWIW, I don't see AJ anywhere near the top 5 Not worth much Didn't say that, he's a good player, definitely in the top 20, which is not an insult!

Not true about games: 79-85--averaged 32 games with 79-80 team going 29-5 05-15 -32 games average Timinskas-after 3 point line team records during his era: 7-20; 10-17; 21-8; 22-8 VG player--not top 10

That's what makes these debates interesting. Everyone has a different opinion. Tough for many of us to evaluate players in the old era.
1. Ruland 2. Guerin 3. Burtt Sr 4. Isaac 5. AJ
Loved Kirksay, Timinskas and all those guys, but just can't put them in same category as AJ. Kirksay was a heck of a player and has a MAAC MVP (which AJ doesn't have), but didn't have the same take over the game ability that AJ has.

Kirksay was incredibly steady under pressure.
