Will they ever be able to compete?
Fordham/Iona/Manhattan great old local rivalry. Why is Siena on their schedule and not us?
I thought Pecora was a big proponent of local teams playing each other.

Why would you want to? They are RPI killers. Nothing to gain by playing them. We shouldn't be playing teams that will probably finish the season in the 300+ range.

As much as I can't stand them, I swear there must be some kind of curse on that program for it to be so bad for so long. Maybe purging Nick Macarchuk, leaving the MAAC or snubbing the traditional game with us - no matter what, they just continue to suck every year. If I were McLaughlin, I'd call this guy:

Fordham is a joke... when their fans claim they can't win due to their "tough" academics you can't help but laugh. Have they ever heard of Stanford, Notre Dame, Georgetown, Duke, Virginia, Wake Forest, UNC, BC, Georgia Tech..... schools with greater academic requirements than Fordham...yet they can compete.
The kids they are recruiting have no idea who Fordham is because these kids were not alive the last time Fordham had a good team. Notre Dame's coach Kelly realized this when he talked to recruits.... ND football was not really known by the recruits in this day and age because they had yet to be born when Holt'z won the last national championship. Let's be real....Fordham is not ND.
I think Frank has to go at this point.... he retired on the job about 12 years ago. They need a young AD who will push the program and try and get upgrades to the facilities. I love the old building but they can keep the traditional feel but modernize it to catch recruits attention.

In today’s local Westchester paper the Journal News and also in the New York Times there were ads for Fordham basketball. Do any of the geniuses at Fordham realize that “maybe the funds should be spent first of recruiting” so you can put a competitive team on the court for fans to watch. It’s amazing Fordham’s own fans hate the basketball program and the school is out trying to promote its games to the general public. You can’t make this up!

Kind of feel sorry for them.......NOT! I'm sure they were feeling bad for us during the season with 2 wins. NOT! We can never forgive/forget how our fans were treated as second class citizens during the yearly trip to Rose Hill in the 60's and 70's. Fordham BB will hardly be competitive because they do not have anything resembling a modern facility and probably will have a tough time building such a facility because it is too cost prohibitive to do so in NYC. Their folks are talking about using the new Brooklyn arena instead and bringing Nick Macarchuk back! Hey, Digger may be available too? To capture the minds of their "older" fans of their football team of the 30's, the AD has re-emphasized football (1-9 in 2011) at the expense of the city game. What a mistake, one that continues to be perpetuated. Oh well.

This is TWO decades of mostly frustration for Fordham fans so we should cut them some slack. I don't know what I'd do if we were in a similar situation, but I'm guessing not too well. I know ONE thing I'd have a LOT fewer of full bottles of scotch around (past Christmas presents) than I do now.

I know that I'd be miserable if I were them. There just doesn't seem to be any end in sight for their misery. Every time they hit the bottom, they think "Ok, it is as low as it can get." And then BAM it seems to reset and they fall further.
Many of these guys had no sympathy when we were struggling so it is hard to feel for them. There are plenty of guys on the Fordham board that respect what Iona has done and is doing albeit begrudgingly in some cases. Those are the guys I feel for. For us, at least we felt like if it weren't for a couple of injuries and a few bad decisions on the recruiting front we'd be ok back then. For them, it just seems like they are some sort of hoops Bermuda Triangle.
They seem to pin everything on Frank McLaughlin. Can one man truly be the blame for the complete and utter disaster that FU athletics has become?
Like CTBill and some others I would prefer it that they were much better. It is definitely better for all NYC schools when Iona, Manhattan, St. Johns and Fordham are all doing well. That's why we need a Big 5 type of event to keep the buzz going in NYC.
Go Gaels!!!!!!

The Rams just soundly defeated a MAAC bottom feeder (Siena). And their young players (frosh and sophs) seemed to play well. Was it the opposition or is the light coming on for the newbies. Their next game is at MSG against a bad St. John's team, so it might give their fans a reason for hope. And needless to say we better put a beating on Siena when we play them.

Consistent with my post in another thread, who the hell is Fordham?? If not Iona, I would rather discuss SLU, or Mizzou, or even Illini. Or . . . even ic59's and my mutual non IOna interest - The Cardinals.

Local teams should play each other annually. It's good for the neighborhood I agree. Mizzou and Illinois play each other next week. SLU and SIU play each other regularly. My question is why Mizzou and SLU don't play each other - ever??
