The final stretch of our OOC schedule begins this weekend. Could be a tricky game against an A10 team that comes in at 6-3, albeit without any impressive wins.
RPI Forecast puts us at a 6.5 point favorite with a 71% chance of winning, although we know that means nothing.
Interesting note: only twice in the past 10 years have we started our first 8 games with a record of 6-2 or better ('11-12 and '05-06), and in both years we went dancing. Just saying. :-)
Hopefully we can get out of this one with a win and set the tone for what will be a very difficult 3 game OOC road trip before conference play resumes.
Go Gaels!!!

Can draw some interesting conclusions based on past results when the team has started out 6-2 in their first 8 games. In fact, never in Iona's history have they started out 6-2 and NOT played in the NCAAs or NITs. Hopefully we can win this weekend and history will repeat itself come March:
12-13 (4-4 after 8 games, MAAC Champions) 11-12 (7-1, At-Large Berth) 10-11 (5-3, MAAC Finals) 09-10 (4-4, Lost in MAAC QFs) 08-09 (3-5, Lost in MAAC QFs) 07-08 (2-6, Lost in MAAC QFs) 06-07 (0-8, Lost in MAAC PIG) 05-06 (7-1, MAAC Champions) 04-05 (2-6, Lost in MAAC SFs) 03-04 (3-5, Lost in MAAC SFs)
Other Notable Years:
00-01 (6-2, MAAC Champions) 99-00 (3-5, MAAC Champions) 97-98 (5-3, MAAC Champions) 96-97 (6-2, NIT Berth) 95-96 (6-2, NIT Berth) 84-85 (7-1, MAAC Champions) 83-84 (5-3, MAAC Champions) 82-83 (6-2, NIT Berth) 81-82 (5-3, MAAC Champions, NIT Berth) 79-80 (6-2, NCAA Berth) 78-79 (5-3, NCAA Berth)

Chance to play a team from a "better" conference in our building. Let's see who's better.

I'm sure the Bonnies remember from the home beat-down we laid on them last year that Iona is no ordinary MAAC team.
Bonnies should be ready.
Last year was last year, Gaels need to be ready too.

Cjb, you hit the nail on its head. We are the better team, but the Bonnies are in 'reveng' mode, after last year's game. If we're hot from deep, we'll win easily. If not the game should be close with DL clinching the win from the foul line. (SF)

After studying the won and lost record and other factors involved, IMO the Bonny's are about equal to a mid-range MAAC team...Both our big men might get more time then usual to deal with their 7 footer who although not great, has shown some overall improvement...Our speed will be hard for them to deal with.........
My guess Iona a 5 to 6 point favorite...We usually shoot better from outside at our home court, if that happens we might be a pick to beat the spread...
Hope to be there........Say hello..........

FYI, from the Bonnies board. Interesting take from the opponent's perspective:
I expect a good turnout of Bona fans in New Rochelle on Saturday. Iona is 5-2 & 3-0 at home.
They are led by 6’6” Amand pumping in 22pg. He is a fabulous shooter, hitting 54% FGs and a torrid 44% treys (hoists up lots). His size with great touch makes him very hard to curtail.
Surprised that Iona has a -1.9 rebound margin. Laurey (6’9”/255) is a beast inside grabbing 8.7 carooms a game. I expect that average to rise toward his 10+ rebs last year.
Iona scores nearly 80 points a game & accomplishes that with superb shooters. English is a big PG who gets all involved while shooting 38% & 36% Treys for his 13 ppg.
They come at you with FOUR double digit scorers while taking very good care of the ball (11 TOs a game).
Bottom line, they are a higher scoring, better shooting team than Bona. Scoring the trey ball is the greatest difference between the 2 teams. Bona was #3 in the nation in deriving FEWEST % of points from treys. Iona makes 9.6 treys per game as we make only 3.3 a game. They hit them at a remarkable .385 rate while we convert just .265.
We will be severely challenged stopping Laury inside & defending their treys. We have no margin for error in this game whether it be from the stripe, controlling boards or defending beyond the arc.

Didn't want to start a new thread yet, but is anyone else planning on going to the Dayton game? I will have an extra ticket.

Weather Channel predicting 2-4 inches of snow in New Ro tomorrow. Hope this doesn't have too much of an impact on fan turnout. Would be really great to pack the house for this one.

My aide just took the electric wheel chair out of the garage and brought it into my den for charging in preparation for tomorrows game...I was told to bring it to a warm place when temperature drops below freezing...
As the forecasts is snow, I will probably watch on Insider...The days are gone when we travelled hundreds of miles to a game no matter what the weather was...I am now reduced to missing a game a couple of hundred yards away...My wife once said '' You gripe about going around the corner for a gallon of milk, and you drive over 400 miles to Buffalo in a blizzard to see Iona play''.....
Again.....My guess Iona 5-6 point favorite. Any judgement error will be we give the Bonny's a point or so more...We beat them by 15-20 points last year...They are not a good outside shooting team, and this will cause their demise again...Due to their weak schedule it is hard to judge if any team improvement......

She has a firm grasp on your priorities. My wife does not understand why I do not want to spend Saturday with her at the Mall. To her, that (Mall) is all the way to the Sweet 16.
