I thought defensive meltdowns were behind us. Guess not. Score 89 and get embarrassed at home. Amazing. Can we reschedule the Dayton game??? Too bad. This looks bad on the resume'.Interested to hear from the guys at the game what they felt was the cause of our defensive issues. At least the talk can ease on how this Iona team is better than last year, etc. It may be, but there is a ton to prove. BTW, St. Louis, we got the 22 assists to their 18 and LOST. You see, there are other factors that weigh in. As stated many times before.

I thought basically what happened is Iona came out flat, played poorly to start and Bonnies came with a lot of desire and played well and before you knew it we were down 15 and that was too big a deficit to come back from against a quality team. They are a pretty good, better than I thought and they played well today.
As for Iona the defense was pretty bad, especially early and Iona's lack of a second big man and a true point showed itself today. I definitely may have overestimated this team but I think this may just have been one of those games, however the next 3 are going to be very tough to get 2 wins. I still think this team has high upside, especially when they are hitting 3's.
Some positives from today, Armand continues to look great and Robinson showed some of his potential today, but against big athletic teams Iona's lack of an experienced second big man is a bigger negative than I had thought. I did really like the effort they made to come back but overall a lot of bad mistakes and poor Defense resulted in a bad loss.

We gave Zero effort on D. Zero. And a good team took advantage of that. I'm not saying we win if we put in a better effort but we don't find ourselves down 20-5. If we give that effort at Dayton, we will be blown out.

The defense (particularly the interior) took the day off.
If I were TC I'd bring Kyle Smyth in to teach these guys how to take a charge, maybe hand out gold stars for each charge they take (or something they can paste on their uniforms like the buckeye stickers on the OSU football helmets).
Credit to the Bonnies who clearly wanted this game more and executed a near flawless game plan. Every time we had a small run they responded quickly with a run of their own. Hard to fathom they were beaten by Siena, but it goes to show no team can be taken for granted... if there's any silver lining to take away from todays game it would be that I hope our guys got that message.
One last thing, plenty of Bona fans at Hynes today and they were louder than the Iona fans, but of course, they had a lot more to cheer about.

I wonder if Gomez and Ellis are in the bow wow house. Clearly, the Bonnies came with more energy than us and I'm surprised TC did not give these guys minutes to either give the team a spark or keep the pace of the game real fast.
Also, I for one feel better with AJ at the point. Nothing against Sledge but we seem to be more fluid with AJ. I think Sledge has earned minutes due to his passing ability and his defensive play. I wonder if he can fit in as more of a 2 off the bench. I think Gomez would be a better fit as the back up point. JMHO.

Think Cluess hit the nail on the head in the post game interview. He said they didn't practice well yesterday and they got what they deserved. Wake up , Gaels. You can be very good or mediocre, but you are not a great team, so you have to work hard every game.

Comments from SID say it all:
"St. Bonaventure out shot Iona 54.5%-50.0% and held a 44-28 advantage on the boards. Nineteen second chance points and 23 off turnovers for the Bonnies led to the Gaels demise."
5 Bonnies with 15 or more points.

I can't believe how many Bona fans turned out in comparison to ours. They obviously thought this was a big game. We on the other hand did not. Why can't our best OOC home game be played on a Friday night?

Chelsea, you were right, but really wrong, about Iona having 22 assists. Officially they had 22, but most at the game would say about half were phantom assists. Out TO's (15?) were right on, with AJ having seven. We couldn't inbound the ball, but I'm guessing that TC didn't mention that in the post game interview. This isn't the first game where we've had trouble, either.
And any time you get blown out, you have to look for ANY positives. But before I give my take, I'm wondering if there was any word on Ellis and Hines, by the radio guys?
I know this is the giving season, but I think we went overboard in giving up so many uncontested shots.
And please don't complain about the refs. When we play on Saturday, this is what you'll get. Fortunately, most of our League games are Friday/Sunday, or at least that was what we had, last year. And they were bad for both teams, but still hurt the game's flow.
Sean Armand is turning into a VG player. And expanding his game. The Bonnies were all over him, but he put on some great moves. He's no longer just a 3pt shooter. "He got game."
Daniel Robinson really struggled early. But as his PT expanded, he started to show off some of his potential. I can see what TC was talking about, when he praised DR in the preseason. The potential is there, and his confidence is growing.
Tre didn't get many looks, Tavon had his moments, but still struggles, offensively. IW should have had more looks, imo, but he must have had a poor day defensively, as both he and Mike Poole where chewed out by TC.
With many fans braving the weather, I think we deserved a better effort.

Shame that could've been a nice win. Then would've been house money on the road. Do not expect W's at Dayton or N. Iowa.

As this game sinks in it is getting more disappointing. Never being in a game at home is unacceptable. Iona needs to make up for this in next 3.
