St. Louie.........Attended my first Iona--Siena game probably in the winter of 1947...If my memory has not completely deserted me it was held at the old Albany Armory...They were at that time the biggest rivalry of the year...One trip took five us almost 6 hours to do the 150 mile trip home due to a blizzard, an old car with a defective windshield wipe wiper with a lousy heater...My grandfather with his men and trucks were just getting ready for their sanitation route...Of course my father ordered my younger brother and I to assist with the route.....

I have never been to an Iona Sienna game.

OT, I remember READING about some of those Iona-Siena games and drove to Albany for one in the '58-59 season, and I think we lost that one. "Green Street" was the wild part of Albany, and I think that area was leveled for what is now the TUC, but I'm not sure. Also, remember reading that in the late forties, early fifties, an Iona-Siena game was decided by a half court shot? Do you remember such a game?

...and as an Iona Gaels fan i find it annoying that you post everyday and can't spell our team name or one of our best players name and those are facts I am sorry if my post spelling errors annoy you, but would have wished that you would have taken into consideration that I am forced by a stroke to use one shaky finger...I wish I could return to my one time typing speed of 35-40 words per minute... ot, from now on save the key strokes and just type "G's" - everyone here will know what you're talking about.

Hopefully Iona plays well and comes away with a W. My son has two hoop games and the Iona game is sandwiched in between. I'll try to race home to watch on NBC sports network, if not I'll dvr and watch later in the evening.

Interesting story based on statistical analysis that says Iona is the best small conference team in the country, or at least can be the best in anyone game. wp.me/p1s9Af-4z7

iona a 1pt favorite, i will jump all over that
This is why we said not a gimme.
As of 6 pm we are now a rising 3 1/2 point favorite........... ''IMO'' (Please note) it will level of to a 4 to 4 1/2 point favorite... With about 3 points G.Mason home court advantage built in it, seems about right.. Hope you betting guys got in early.......

About 5-6 years ago made my last trip up there with Gene Langbien who is now sadly gone...Having some time before the game I suggested that we take a ride to Scotia N.Y. to see the guard house to the Naval storage base which was about a 15 minute ride...It was 65 years since I was there while waiting to be discharged so I stopped in to have a chat with the Marine Guards...... Not much had changed in those 65 years...It was the same guard house with the same main greeting desk....The guards were delighted with the visit, and called into the main barracks and soon we were quite a bunch with questions all around..........A real De-ja-vu moment.......

qs, thanks. Must have been painful, but not nearly as painful as it would have been if it happened, today. And I think you'll agree.
OT, I started at Iona Prep (9/51) with Gene Langbein. A real character, but a nice guy. I would always remind him that my grammar school, ICS in Tuckahoe, defeated his Holy Family team in baseball. And Gene was pitching. We went into the bottom of the ninth with a five run lead. They rallied to trail by one with Gene on third and two were out. Fortunately for us, Gene was thrown out trying to steal home, ending the game. A year later when I reminded him about it, he insisted he was safe. Like I said, a real character, but a nice guy.

I just came back after having to go out to the store. I was wearing my IONA pullover and a young man came up to me and asked if I was going to the game tonight. It told him that I was. Turns out that he is a 2006 grad of GMU. He said he'd be there too and expected that Iona would beat the Patriots. I told him that as long as we get out with a "W" I'll be happy.
I did tell him that I am a graduate of GMU's law school and while I wished GMU well in the rest of their schedule, there is no part of me that will pull for GMU tonight.
Go Gaels!!!
