Most here thought there was no chance of an at large previously. Let's go 17-3 in the league and see.
By the way--nice workmanlike league win at home--covers spread--may qualify for blowout for those who only go by the #s.
super I think no chance, we have no top 100 wins and may not have any unless one of our OOC's has a great rest of the year. We could run the table, lose in the Maac championship and have an RPI in the 30's and still not get an at large because of our lack of quality wins. Best case we have a fantastic finish win the tourney and grab a 12 seed.

Hines was productive for a lengthy stretch in the second half. DL kept us in it early and AJ lit it up the final 8 minutes. Dublin and Ibn showed energy and effort during their short stints. Amayo is a bit of an enigma to me in that he is a fantastic, aggressive athlete, however his free throw shooting woes will keep him on the bench during crunch time of tight games.
Tonight's game proves that NO MAAC opponent should be taken lightly and we have to be ready for each teams best shot.

9 points, 6 boards for Hines. I'll take that every game
1. Fairfield came out with high energy and ran out of steam late in second half, which opened the door for us to dominate the final stretch of the game. You could see signs of them wearing down with missed shots, sloppy sequences, etc.
2. AJ with an incredible second half. Even when he's not scoring (first half tonight) he is compensating with his passing game and by not forcing the issue for the most part. Very impressive.
3. Not a vintage game from DL3, particularly on the boards where he was uncharacteristically soft.
4. Very productive game from Hines, who made very few mistakes, gave us physicality on the boards and showed a lot of confidence on offense. Impressive.
5. Need to remember that we are being played like we are everyone's Super Bowl, which will probably pay off come conf tourney time, but also will lead to some bumps in the road in reg season play from time to time.
6. Thought Fairfield was a solid team. Expect them to be mid pack by end of season.
7. Bebis brings a ton of passion and enthusiasm to the team, which does not go unnoticed by coaches. Think this kid will be a real player for us next season at this rate.
8. We played intense and disciplined defense in spurts tonight. Need more consistency but a good sign nonetheless.
9. Casimir showed some real moves tonight and dimension to his game with drives and dishes, pull ups, fade aways, etc.
10. Offensive possessions in first half were lowest in Cluess' tenure as coach I believe. Credit to Fairfield.

Go Gaels!!!
"We are being played like we are everyone's Super Bowl". Not sure I am buying that.
I've read this four page thread about the FF game. But only the last couple of posts had anything to do with the game. I was happy to see Pat Driscoll as one of the refs, as I feel that with better refs, fewer fouls are called. Number of fouls called in the last five games, starting with last night: 26/29/31/44/31 And FT's attempted: 27/31/31/45/37
This usually means 'shorter' games, which appeals to me.

I am sure the jaspers are saying the same thing as defending champs
The last 2 games Iona has shown signs of being a very overconfident team...The opponents released this and took full advantage playing well beyond their ability...Some one was needed to arouse Iona from their malaise.
To our credit we have those type players....Williams then English took control and awakened Iona from their slumber.....Once awaken and the realization that ''We better get down to the business of full effort.'' The entire team responded...It took a while, but once the lead was regained, our opponent knew that they were facing the true ability of the Gael team, the games were over...
I feel sure that our team will come out fast Friday against Niagara and put them away early...The game against Canisius will be a different story...It will be a battle until we rid them of any confidence they have left over from our last meeting...
If we can take these 2 games, it will send a strong signal to the rest of the MAAC teams that their honeymoon with our overconfidence is over.....
Aside.....Had a visitor Over the weekend...In my usual way I touted the ability of our team...At half time of the Fairfield game he called again and told me he had bet Iona on my ravings, giving 14 1/2 points...Further is said from what he seen of the 1st half, he thought the Gaels Stunk...I told him not to give up, we would beat the spread as we would be fully aroused in the 2nd half...I am awaiting his happy call....
We open as a surprising 16 point favorite...With our tendency to ease up when issue is no longer in doubt would be a 'Stay away game' for me...For some reason we seem to be getting a little more respect as far as lines, RPI and polls go...
so you told him to give the points?
