Wouldn’t it be assumed TC would be back after the new year? A statement should be released . Other ncaa basketball coaches health concerns have been addressed this season why the exception
I respect his familiy’s privacy but doesn’t he owe the Iona alumni / donors & Iona basketball faithful a statement at this point in the season? Been roughly 5 months now w/o him

TC "owes" us nothing.
It's the school that should release something and it should be done in a way that respects TC's privacy if that's the wish of he and his family.
I should also add that this isn't easy for the school, as there's no cookie-cutter way to handle a situation like this.
A game like this calls for a meeting by the school president to remind some of these kids they are on scholarship which can easily be taken away. I was so happy Verizon does not have the Pac-10 network and did not see this debacle. Well, on to the Maac.....

How about 3 months
He was at scrimmage so it’s actually not even 3, just over 2 months but seems like an eternity. This team is really bad right now but they were last year as well, and at this time a year ago few of us thought a turn around was possible, but unless we see cluess soon it may be impossible.
The University of Hawaii is going through the same exact thing--they have been without their head coach all season due to an undisclosed illness. The school made no detailed announcement, and few updates were provided--and I'm betting Hawaii is covered more regularly than Iona is.
Yesterday was the head coach's first day back, and still the reason for his absence has not been described. BTW, Hawaii destroyed Maine by 40.
As I said, I am keeping the faith, and am hopeful Tim will be back sooner rather than later. I don't expect Tim to return until he is able to give 100% to the program, nor do I want him to return before that time. From the less important basketball perspective, though, the longer it takes him to come back, the less likely we'll see another dramatic turnaround.

The way I see it is that he's probably trying to make it back based on the lack of info. I don't expect Iona to say anything or to say he's missing the year. If he's able to return in February, who's going to say no even if there's 10 games left?
Hell if he just wants to come back and coach during the MAAC tourney, still gives them a better chance to win than not having Coach Cluess.

Oh, I agree with all of that. I am just talking realistically. The less time he has, the less impact he can have to fix all the things that are broken.
I have always had in my head--with ZERO inside knowledge--that he was going to come back for Friday's St Peter's game. Again, this is not inside info, just has always been in my mind. I might be right. I might have my head up my ass. I have no idea. But I don't want him back unless he's healthy!
Either way, I think the program is in transition. The roster has 5 seniors. At least 3 juniors and sophs are seeing minimal minutes and could easily transfer. And we have 2 junior guards in Gist and IW that can't be happy with the way things are going and could leave, too. The program is going to be starting over, and we don't even know for certain who is going to be at the helm. The 2010s were owned by Tim Cluess. But I can't help but think we're approaching the end of this run, given what we saw last year and where we're at now.

This team, as it is designed and being run at this point, is going nowhere. Chemistry issues appear to be a major concern and since the bench is producing very little, I don't see the ability to fix the situation.
I don't think that the "Golden Days" of Iona hoops are behind us. The biggest impact to struggling during last years OOC schedule was the loss of Roland Griffin. If Griffin is in the lineup with McGill, EJ and Agee, we would have won at least 4 of the OOC games and probably 4 or more conference games. I think we would have dominated.
I think that the combination of Coach being ill, losing Grasso, and even losing Eaton (our bigs coach) has had a major impact on recruitment, game management and player development. I am not blaming Arnold, he has been dealt a shit sandwich this season and on top of that we have a leadership issue with the players.
Maybe Jeff Mailhot will be a great recruiter... but the jury is still out on that until we see what he brings us this recruiting cycle. With that said, I am sure the absence of Coach Cluess is not helping recruiting and I am sure that Coach Mailhot's time is somewhat limited as his non-recruiting responsibilities have probably increased due to Arnold having to assume the HC position.
TC has won at every level... as long as he returns and keeps a good recruiter on staff, Iona will compete for a title every year. That is all we can ask for at this level, especially with our budget limitations. Let's just say some prayers that TC recovers fully... I could care less if he coaches at all this year, so long as he is back in the saddle next season and is healthy.
Sometimes it is healthy for any entity to be thrown into a little chaos as it gives people a chance to step up and develop. It also gives the program a glimpse of what people are truly made of. This way you know if you need to cull the herd to make sure the you are only employing the best folks possible... not just people riding on the backs of others.
Even if this team falls flat on it's face, Iona will not be sliding to the bowels of the MAAC any time soon.
