When Tra went big in the first half, Eagles had trouble shooting or passing over the bigs, especially Risto. I was surprised that same lineup wasn't used in the second half when the threes were flying and falling. Puzzled that Risto (or Gist) wasn’t inserted for Perez the final 4 mins of game. Risto’s size and Gist’s speed would of helped challenge the Niagara outside shooters. Perez looked a bit defeated out there.

Not sure what is up with Perez. He doesn't even look to take a shot anymore so I'm not sure why he's playing. Ironically the one shot he attempts at crunchtime wasn't close. This has become a hard team to watch. Haven't felt this down about an Iona team in a long time. Since last year?

Again a horrible job by Arnold with the second half substitution patterns. Exhausted bodies out there. Most rest guys got this year... Can't blame minutes , their 3 best players played 35+

1970 you got a cameo on tv at halftime. Did you seeing any instruction or coaching at the media/called timeouts? Not enough from Arnold everyone talking, not sure if there is agreement in the huddle which leads to confusion, see last 12 seconds

My understanding is that Gist was benched because of attitude issues, but who knows. Very bizarre that he wouldn’t see the floor in the second half. I know he again didn't cone out when he was told earlier in the game smh...shouldnt have played from that point on, did it last home game also

Watch the replay of the last possession of the 1st half. After he dribbled out the clock and took the three you could see Agee, Crawford and Ross just standing looking at each other in disbelief. Obviously Gist didn't run the offense that was planned in the timeout. Pretty sure Gist started the 2nd half. They actually said wtf just happened

Yes Gist started second half and never got back in, maybe he told Arnold to F off again. Washington was good and bad but offense runs a lot better with him in, not starting him today and in second half is just stupid. Arnold’s substitutions make no sense on a regular basis. Guess can’t do it but I’d like to see one of the other coaches run the show. Can’t remember what St. Peter’s shot from 3 but I wouldn’t be surprised if for the year so far we are allowing 50% shooting from 3 at home. So many things wrong it’s hard to even post what’s wrong. Simply we need cluess back. Side note believe McNeil was in street clothes sitting behind the basket closest to the entrance. Maybe academically ineligible? Gist is passionate about competing/winning and if he told Arnold to F off, Arnold needs to get tougher skin. 👍 He has done it at least 3x this year, players need to to listen to the coach whoever it is

Hat did you see any coaching/instruction being given at media/regular timeouts? Yes, The team huddles up, I was actually impressed by Coach Johns going out and instructing and giving advice/ pats on the back etc. I agree but u can only have one voice once the coach sits in that huddle

Just one substitution complaint. After the 12 seconds T/O, imo, we should have taken Washington (four fouls) and EJ (not quick enough) out and put in Cashaw, Van Eyck or Gist to give a foul. Shows me that the staff wasn't thinking. Assuming we gave the foul, then bring Jelly and EJ back in. Not very complicated. Risto should be on the ball , cluess does that at the end of games

We are 2 bonehead plays from being 3-1. I actually thought coach Arnold did some good things today, including a brilliant play out of a TO, and another one that Cluess uses that should have worked but we turned the ball over. Is everyone here absolutely sure that players weren't instructed to foul quickly on the last possession? Here's a hint. Sometimes players don't follow instructions. Look, I have no idea whether head coaching is for Tra Arnold. Maybe not. But some of this stuff has happened when Cluess coaches. Yes, our record would more than likely be much better if Cluess was here all season, but what did you expect? Long season and the league stinks. Hang in there. Greg they were trapping and at no time was the word foul heard coming from the bench

Have watched very little Iona basketball this season for a variety of reasons, but I did watch today. I thought Risto payed well defensively today - kept himself between the ball and the hoop. Although there was one glaring instance, he does not easily take the bait. Ben Perez was one of our better passers today, and that is not a good thing. Ben is a spot-up shooter - a secondary option, not a primary. Not many shot opportunities for him. Agee and Gist are not on the same page with Gist at the point. I don't think Gist anticipates the floor well, and this led to god awful pass attempts to Agee. I don't see any intensity, and this flows, in my opinion from the bench to the floor. How did we do on the 50/50 balls? I was only personally around Cluess once. His focus and intensity was scary. You either catch it or you get run over. This team desperately needs his presence. Let's just say that was an awfully laid back bench today - so laid back and uninteresting that ESPN (Vin P and Fink) spent most of their peeks at the Niagara huddles. Arnold might not be the best coach but he is intense

Keep reading posts about a chemistry problem. Where is this coming from? I see a team lacking confidence and poorly coached. Like posted earlier, Iona gave away a 16 PT lead against Princeton, and has lost 2 league games at home by 1 point giving up double digit leads in both. I get how the "chemistry issue" gets mentioned when a team is losing, but in those 3 losses I noticed poor coaching, execution and decision making on the court more than chemistry issues. One play in each and Iona sits at 3-1 in the MAAC with a overall record of 6-5. And that's giving a pass the first 2 games of the season which were very winnable. Just don't get the whole chemistry issue speculation. Is it the new guys blending with the returning players? Why would the returning players be having issues after the way they bonded the last 10 games last season? Doesn't make any sense to me. iintensei guess u didnt go to all the home games last year and this year, during timeouts we have problems, we have certain guys that don't follow through with plays during games, we have had incidents off the court as well Cluess kept them on the same page as he is a leader of men, we don't have that right now and not sure it's anyone fault

He was a non factor but for his ball handling. No offensive threat whatsoever and allowed defenders to double down on Agee and Crawford as we tried to pound the ball inside. I believe Paulus told his guys to not worry about Perez so it was 5 on 4 for most of the 2nd half. That Gist or even Risto wasn’t subbed makes no sense whatsoever.
