Funny, with all of the hype on how great Pitino's recruiting class is, it's quite possible 3 of next season's starters could be Cluess recruits. Not a knock on his recruiting class at all, which has great potential. Upperclassmen might start the season as starters but underclassmen might be ready for a NCAA run

Also shows how much we missed cluess and how good last year's team should have been Yeah, too bad we will never know how the season would have gone with Cluess. One surprise with the new roster is how fast Pitino used up all of the scholarships. I thought he might hold on to at least one with so many kids already transferring and a lot more to follow.

Any early guesses at starting five? Washington Chavez Jeanlouis Van Eyck Shema That would be good, but I would go with Gist over Chavez due to experience level. So here’s a different take. I predict that RP lands Louisville transfer Darius Perry and this team will run people out of the gym - pressing, trapping, running down hill and shooting the 3. A “Positionless” lineup that can go 10 deep. I’m not buying into going “big” with a tall lineup - doesn’t really matter with great athletes that can rebound. You can bet that each practice will be a war for playing time. Perry Washington Chavez Jeanlouis Shema/Van Eyck Just my take...I think Chavez is the real deal and will get a ton of minutes. Joseph and Carfoord will struggle early and will have to earn minutes with better defense. Gist and Myers could get left behind. No reason to get sentimental about players returning - RP runs practice like the Hunger Games - you either fight for every minute or die on the bench. The level of intensity just went through the roof so you better have some mental toughness!

Do you really think there's a realistic shot of getting him? I agree, Iona gets Perry and Iona will press teams into the ground.

Let me know when the book store starts selling the Iona PHD T-Shirts: Passionate Hungry Driven Dare we say, Dr. Pitino? Hey ukscribe, can you tell us if Coach Pitino had a weekly talk show in Lexington. How long did it run and was it just during the season? Topics discussed?

Yes, Pitino did a radio call-in show with legendary UK play-by-play man Cawood Ledford (the Rupp Arena floor is named "Cawood's Court") and he also drew large crowds during his post-game shows at Rupp with audio piped into the speakers so it was not uncommon for 10,000 fans to stay after the game and listen. I expect he'll do that at Iona. Calipari has continued that tradition and even signs basketballs for kids and fans while he's answering questions - it's a pretty cool thing to watch live. RP also did a radio call-in show at Louisville and even had a weekly TV show in his early years at Louisville called "Courtside with Rick Pitino." To be honest, I miss the days when all head coaches had their own weekly TV show during the 1980s and 90s with highlights and a coach's corner segment. I used to pick up some great drills and out of bounds plays as a young coach from those show segments. Guess those times are gone. To make matters worse, you can't find them on YouTube either. As we all know, RP is awesome with the media and it will be interesting to see how he handles things at Iona. It could be a little non-traditional if he goes to Twitter (he's only been on Twitter since July, 2018) or does his own podcast again. Cal used Facebook this past season to announce that UK's starting point guard did not travel with the team to Florida just minutes before game time which was a shocker. Regardless, I'm sure he'll be very accessible to the media. I also hope he opens up some practices to high school coaches and has a Coach's Clinic - that's where the legend of RP really comes to light. As an outsider looking in, I think the "Pitino Effect" for the consumer will consist of a huge surge in Iona merchandise sales, greater demand for access to streaming games, increased student enrollment (the free publicity for the college is off the charts) and while I hate to say it, if Iona becomes a Top 25 team, there will be such a demand for tickets that some home games might have to be moved to a larger arena to appease the fan base and more importantly, to take advantage of additional revenue. I know that sounds crazy to some of you with a new and improved arena, but money talks, especially after such a financial hit per coronavirus. Iona BB could be a huge cash cow for the entire athletic department if more seats can be sold so my guess is that those plans are being discussed behind the scenes. Of course, this is all assuming that Iona gets off to a fast start and wins big in Year 1. Be gentle in the comments - I'm just throwing it out there. kyphotoarchive.com/2019/01/27/rick-pitinos-post-game-radio-interviews-1990/
