I still think Ross starts. Dude shot 40% from 3 on the season and 47% from 3 in the MAAC and is a returning senior and you want to start a frosh over him? Yes

The way I see it is that the holdovers are there to round out the roster. RP has no attachment to them and will give priority to his recruits. If any of the holdovers expects to play significant minutes they’ll have to really step up their game because they’re not part of the future of this team. JMO.

If the kids even sensed that, they would have transferred. Unless you think Pitino is a total scumbag who would lie to the seniors. Why not just tell them to fuck off and bring in 13 guys if you're gonna do that.

I’m not saying that Pitino is a scumbag. What I am saying is that all coaches have an agenda and a more personal attachment to their own recruits. As for coaches lying to players how many times has a coach recruited a player and assured the player he would be there for four years and up and leaves for another job. The holdovers are seniors who may or may not work out. Next year he has their ships available. I don’t know RP personally and neither does anyone else on this board. What I do know is that he is a hall of fame coach who’s at Iona because he wasn’t getting a high major job until his reputation is rehabilitated. Iona offers him the opportunity to do just that. We’re using him and he’s using us. If it works out for him then it works out for us. As for the players I always hope it works out for them.

I'm half kidding, but this is what I do believe. Every coach (Cluess included), plays the guys that he believes will give him the best chance to win. Gist & Ross may well be those guys, and I'm guessing they will start at the beginning of the season. But, if the new guys outperform them in practice, young or not, they will get the minutes. Particularly with Ross, if he doesn't handle the ball better than he did I could see him getting a seat on the bench. If he does learn to handle the ball he could be a star for this team. I like our returning players, but I have no idea how good the new guys are. Should be an interesting year.

Gist and Ross would have been granted waivers under the new "guidelines" the NCAA put into place last summer,
