If this starts trending basketball season could be in trouble. End on campus courses Thanksgiving and only online classes rest of 1st semester and 2nd semester. Idea is to avoid flu season and a potential 2nd wave of coronavirus. Actually seems like a good sign to me. You can always adjust schedule. If they chose not to bring in students at all it would be hard to allow sports to go on. This is a better alternative. True. What had me confused/worried was Rothstein's original tweet saying on campus classes ending Thanksgiving and students not returning until August. He had it backwards. So I guess the 2nd semester will return to on campus classes?

Probably the smartest thing to do, keep kids from traveling Home too much and bringing back the virus with them, and more time in school when it is warm and less likely to spread. If Covid returns in the fall schools will finish 1st semester online at home. Second semester at school and a delayed and shortened basketball season starting in January may be dependent on if there is a vaccine, which could be possible by January. That could also mean fans at games, which is less likely if we start in November.

Highly unlikely there is a vaccine by January and it is mass produced enough to provide millions of doses for Americans.

My opinion is highly unlikely is an overly pessimistic view, I say 40/60 chance of a vaccine mass produced by then. Never have there been this many companies with potential of huge financial gain, all working at once 24/7 to be the first to get this done. Love to hear what a oddsmaker would say about this, bet the odds improved after Moderna’s announcement today, the stock market thought so.

Average time for development of a vaccine is about 10 years. Fastest vaccine ever produced was for Mumps. Took 4 years. About a year too late for me . Problem isn't so much in the time to develop it as is the time it takes to prove that it is safe and effective. Hard to fast track that. But again, I am rooting for the folks working on this. Would be great if we got it by the end of the year.

It’s the opinion of virtually every specialist in this field I’ve seen interviewed on TV or read about.

I'll start by saying that I have no idea if this is true. But I believe I heard that a company/university in Oxford, England hopes to have a vaccine ready by September. Also, heard that meant 30M dosages. Did anyone else hear this?

Totally agree. I can see the SEC raising its middle finger to the NCAA and playing anyway. Compounded by the Presidential election, this fall is shaping up to be a total shit show. I can see them trying to play without fans in the stands, and still reaping the TV revenue. They are going to have to figure out a way to keep players, coaches, referees, etc. safe. That would necessarily include constant testing, which isn't a reality right now. Imagine the outcry if SEC football players can be tested every two days but regular folks have a hard time getting tested even when symptomatic. My son has committed to McGill University in Montreal. Still not sure they will allow students on campus in the fall. May be virtual learning. Congratulations Bill! You have a bright son. McGill is a great school with a beautiful campus.

Also, heard that meant 30M dosages. Did anyone else hear this? Well, this is true in that Oxford University has said this could happen. They also do not as yet have any idea if it works. They say they should know by July. Whenever I hear something like this I remember the researcher who told me 12 years ago we were about 5 years away from having a replacement for knee cartilage. I asked if he knew it was 5 years away, why couldn't we just do it next week? 12 years later and still no cartilage replacement.

Also, heard that meant 30M dosages. Did anyone else hear this? Yes I heard it as well, though this does seem very optimistic. The way vaccines have been produced and tested in the past there is no chance, but working on different stages at the same time from many different companies makes an early 2021 vaccine possible, not probable, more unlikely than likely but possible. Don’t want to get too political but the most disgusting thing about this pandemic is certain people would prefer things not get better until after the election just because they have such disdain for Trump. This sickens me!
