Team definitely ran out of gas. Strange to say you can take good things out of a 22 point loss but I liked what I saw from some of the newbies. Joseph is a stud and will be a force in the MAAC. Myers looked good and you can see Chavez will get his points. Don't think too many teams in the MAAC will defend like SHU. I also liked Koroma and I think he will be a solid contributor. Looking forward to the next game. I agree about Koroma, i liked Chavez motor, hope he will get his points too.

Not good news, Need Van Eyck to play much better as well as Chavez until they get healthy. No complaints about tonight.

1. Loved the effort. 2, Assuming we get to practice and play the December schedule, I think the team can be good by 2021. In the meantime we can beat some teams (in December) on talent alone. 3. Guys who impressed: Chavez; Junior Joseph; Meyers; Koroma: Ross; JeanLouis, and Brown. 4. Throw in Gist and VanEyck (when he gets back to 100%) and Shema (coach's eval), and we'll have a 10 man rotation. 5. Have to look at this game as a learning experience. When SH gets Aiken back, I think that they'll compete for the BE title. 6. My POG was Junior Joseph, as I didn't expect him to be that good. Based on one game I can see JJ, Koroma and Meyers winning ROW, though it might be hard for Meyers to get enough PT when Gist returns. 7. Didn't see enough of Rowe and Crafoord to really make a judgement.
BB is back, and I just hope that we all pass the post game Covid tests.

Our big men were in serious foul trouble by the beginning of the second half. Not sure if that trouble was totally warranted. Very impressed with Myers, Joseph and JeanLouis. Ross was Ross thank goodness. We should be on a roll by the middle of the season. Think we have a good chance to take the MAAC, Covid allowing.

Very happy, think we will go 9 deep as the season goes on,will be very difficult to stop us inside in the MAAC. Would love to know what Willard said at halftime, that was a great defensive effort by the Hall in the 2nd half. Think it would have been closer if this wasn't our first game, very bad spacing at the top of the key on most possessions.

Impressive first game for the first 25 minutes. Fatigue kicked in and Seton Hall was on fire.
Curious to see if coach Pitino utilizes Gist more at the 2 as opposed to the point. Both Chavez and Meyers did a nice job handling the point.
Also, once Shema is back will he and Brown platoon at the 5 with Nelly handling the power 4 role.
We will need Van Eyck to connect on some outside shots to compliment Ross.
Jean Louis and Koroma fill the lunch pail role. Guys that can do a number of things to help a team succeed.
Not enough of a sampling from Rowe and Crafoord. Crafoord may of had the jitters.
Our defensive effort in the first half was excellent.
I think Ross, Gist and Nelly will log the most minutes for the team.

Impressed with what I saw. They're young, talented and appear to have a high ceiling. Looking forward to watching them develop into something special.

Overall- very good start. A/TO ratio of 11/22 will turn around in a few games as they continue to work together and when Gist gets back.

My thoughts:
First off, just great to see Iona basketball at it, especially all the new faces and the much anticipated Pitino debut. Despite the final score, last night's effort left A LOT to be excited for in the future. I was so impressed with the intensity and athleticism in the first half. As expected, they got worn down in the second half and really struggled. With Gist and Shema plus additional practice time under their belt, this team can and should compete with anyone.
Ross - unbelievable shooter, put on some muscle and seems to have improved his handle as well. First team all MAAC player. Van Eyck - Not a good performance. Hoping that was a one off situation, but was odd to see that after he was the only player Pitino had really raved about. Jean Louis - as advertised. I think he'll thrive once the offense can play in transition more. Like his action on defense and rebounding ability. Nelly - Wow. Talk about a steal. He's so raw and still had moments where he looked like a high major big. Very excited to see his growth Chavez - Love his fire and active hands on the defensive side. Played very confident. If he gets going offensively, he'll be a huge piece to this team Myers - I think he was my biggest surprise of the night. Also played extremely confident. Plays hard defense, hit some tough shots and handled the point well. Koroma - Loved his defense on Mamu - think he's a key long, athletic kid who's quickness allows him to guard bigger bodies. A bit unorthodox on the offensive side, but another guy whose development will be exciting. Brown - mixed signals on him from last night. Loved his back to the basket game - awesome footwork, but struggled finishing after making his moves. Some clumsy turnovers, but should thrive vs. lesser competition. Rowe - Limited action, but I actually saw some signs of promise. Very active defensively and one nice offensive possession where he showed some good handle and was called for a bad charge in my opinion. Crafoord - did not see enough time for an opinion
Let's get healthy and stay healthy. Should be a very exciting season!

Likely won't have time today to make my own player comments but I think these comments are very good and I agree with pretty much all of it. The Maac is going to have major problems with our length and athletic ability. St. peters may be our toughest Maac matchup.

All good comments above. Ross looks like he really hit the weight room as I15 said in the offseason. Nelly Joseph will be a star in the Maac. Myers will develop into a good point guard. Too bad we had to play the 2nd half. Mamukelash IMO was the real killer not Rhoden in this game. What a monster.
