Never more disappointed by an advent associated with Iona BB. Sat through most of it, left after an hour while it was still going on, and I saw two things that were BB related. Arriving early I saw a player shooting threes with a coach monitoring his performance. Looked to be about 6'6 or 6'7 and he was a lefty shooter, and his performance was impressive. I think it was Terrell Williams but a fellow alum said it was Greg Gordon. Since he was in sweats, I couldn't tell. The dunking contest was a three person contest, Bates, Brice and Gordon, and I think that Brice won, but IMO, Greg Gordon should have won as he put on a very entertaining show. Contest took all of about 10 minutes.
As for the "Big" prize winners, only students were eligible and I didn't wait around to see who won the car.
I had planned to attend the Women's event on Saturday morning, but am going to pass. Put it into the "Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me" category.
Got excited when leaving and walking behind a few students who were very enthused talking about the five recruits who were in attendance. Two were described as five star recruits, and as I was about to ask the names of the recruits one of the students said that they were the two top Irish dancers in America. A perfect ending to the night.
I thought it was good. It was what it's supposed to be, hype for the season. Turnout was very good and students stayed until the end. Dunk contest was very good, very athletic kids. Not disappointed because this is how it was when it was at midnight.

The women's event is an actual scrimmage.

On a second look maybe Isaac Brice deserved the win. Not saying that 1970 was wrong, just not my expectations of Meeting the Gaels. And just so that everyone understands, the Dunking contest consisted of three players. And would a layup line be too much to ask? Or a shoot around?
P.S. And to make matters worse, I missed an opportunity to speak with Greg.

This event was aimed to get the students excited and involved for the upcoming season. Some videos on Instagram of multiple dunks by Brice and Gordon. My take from them is that it looks like there was a pretty nice turnout and the students had fun. I70 confirmed the turnout. Different players posted videos. And you can tell this team really enjoys each other.
As far as playing a scrimmage, just speculation on my part, but it might be possible Iona is playing a "secret" scrimmage this weekend? These scrimmages have started and saw a report on Twitter that there are lots being played this weekend

This is what most programs do across the country to get their students hyped for the season.

And it looks like this was a much better turnout than what Pitino had at these “Meet the team” pre season events
Yup, great point, and based off of the videos of Brice and Gordon dunks, much more enthusiasm in the HAC
Just think that the students are and have been on campus, and a student event could have been held at any time. IMO, this weekend was set aside for alumns, as it was Homecoming.

I59, not sure if you saw this post and opted to go check it out. I didn't make it down--been a rough couple days. Would like to hear what folks thought of the womens scrimmage and how they looked.
For those not on twitter, I'll be at maac media day on Tues and will drop a new podcast ep that afternoon. I'll have audio from Tobin, Ang and whatever players attend.

Agree and disagree. It is homecoming, and traditionally we've seen a scrimmage. It is also traditionally day 1 of the season, and these madness type events are growing more common.
Was mentioned earlier that we may have a secret scrimmage this weekend as well--may be trying to keep kids from getting banged up.
