I’m a Gael since ‘65. Football team ‘66-‘68. Grad in ‘69. I remember when a big win at the Cardboard Coliseum on campus or at “home’ games at Mt. St. Michaels was against LeMoyne or Bridgeport. Made the trip from LI to New Rochelle in the rough pre-Valvano years. Great memories of trips to near misses in NCAA against Chicago Loyola, UVA, Georgetown, Penn. Maybe the worst was loss to BYU. STH at Mulcahy - Hynes.

Pretty good game by Oz. Seems like a difference maker! Sorry about the game. But maybe you can save your Grinch costume for next year.

Being from LI, I wonder if you knew Pete Gibson and Eric Zehnter, two friends of mine who are no longer with us, but, who also travelled faithfully from LI to New Ro for Iona BB. Great to have you on board.

My takeaways from last night. *Oz seems thinner than last year. And I wish that the students were there to see the following Shema Show from last night, and it didn't result in a single point being scored. With about 17 minutes left in the 2nd half and Iona owning a big lead, I witnessed the following. First, he hustles from near the basket to block a wide open corner 3, Iona gets the loose ball and runs the court, an alley oop pass to Oz was just off the mark and he wasn't able to convert. And we run the other way and Colgate misses a close in shot, and King Oz grabs the rebound. All the action took about 20 seconds. His play was inspiring. *Near the end of the game, Panzo drives to the basket, scores and is fouled, making the foul shot. TA pulls him aside and it seemed to me said, that's what we're trying to get you to do. *Joel Brown was 2-2 from the foul line and the shoots were smooth. Also, 1-1 from three. Hope it's a trend. *If they kept going to him I think that Jean, Jean, the Scoring Machine would have topped 30. Since, I think he'll continue as our sixth man, I'll refer to him as Hondo, in honor of former Celtics star, John Havlicek. *They just ran into an extremely hot team, but I'll be surprised if Colgate doesn't win the Patriot Conference. They looked good, but Iona was unbelievable. *Crowd much better than expected. *Love watching Greg Gordon play, but since he's such a big part of our press, which results in a lot of fouls being called, I'm wondering if we should consider not starting, and maybe saving him from early foul trouble. TA could see how the refs are calling the game (tight or letting stuff go ). He's too exciting not to have him on the court. *Quigley just has to get stronger, and it probably won't happen until next year. *Any word on Rodrigo? Since, at times, we have Quigley and Brown on the court at the same time, it's nice to have a third PG. *He's only shown that he's a shooter and not a rebounder, but it's still encouraging to know that Dylan Saunders has a great touch and a pretty quick release. For me, he's a pleasant surprise. Next chance you're there for warmups, watch him shoot. He's smooth. *Any word on Terrell? He's not a big, except for us.
I'll close by sayiny, it was a pleasant surprise.
