Very interesting game to see where the team with OZ is compared to the Maac pack. Could be the beginning of a significant run for the Gaels if they can keep the winning momentum going....

KP has this as a predicted close loss on the Road. Means the spread is going to be very even obviously.

The cocks avg 9 assists and 13 to's Another team we need to press press press They are horrible offensively except they are amazing on the O boards and they make FTs. They are terrific defensively in all facets except fouling. This game is a virtual lock to be a total slog.

ichoops, your enthusiasm is scaring people. The Maac seems like a winnable conference. It's amazing that even with all the departures Iona will be in the mix. It's clear to me that Iona may have swept the Maac is Pitino had stayed and would have tied LaSalle as the only Maac team to go undefeated in conference play. JMHO!

Even the great Pitino cannot hold off that wave.

Sultan should see extended minutes in a slog fest. I don't know if you'll see that, unless he's out there the same time as Os (which we did a little of each of the past 2 games I believe). SPU is an absolute beast on the offensive glass, so we MAY try to go a big bigger at times to counter that. But Sultan and Os rebound at similar rates in general.

After listening to Guy's podcast and the season stats, stating the obvious, like Guy posted this game is going to be a slog. Both teams strengths match the other's weaknesses.
SPU pounds the offensive glass, where Iona has struggled.
SPU commits 21 fouls per game, Iona 19. Will likely be lots of free throws, where SPU has a sizeable advantage. Keeping in mind offensive rebounds, lost count how many times the Gaels have given them up off of missed FT attempts. Can't give SPU multiple shots at 3-4pt possessions.
Both teams force turnovers, but IMO Iona has much better ball handlers. Could see lots of JG and JB (great A/TO) on the court together with Panzo as all three protect the ball.
Iona's biggest advantage is shooting, though SPU is tough on defense. Iona needs the Panzo that shoots 5-10 from three this game.
Expect this game to be an ugly hot mess. The Guys need to come out with the same energy and sense of urgency they had at the end of the Harvard game, or will need an early tech from Tobin.
This has all the makings of the team that plays the hardest gets the win

Don't know if this SPU team is like those of years past (John Dunne). Those teams, in addition to playing tough defense, on offense they milked the 30 second clock. And that made it tough to enjoy the games, even if we won.

We'll need turnovers turning into transition points so that we can keep them out of their halfcourt defense (and us out of our halfcourt offense LOL).

And, I guess it will help to hit some shots and get an early lead.
