OK. It's time to create a new thread for this Women's team! Gaels, with their best performance of the season beat a decent Canisius team in Buffalo 71-58. Their 4th win in the last 5 with the only loss being a 2 point game vs. Rider. Perhaps things are lining up for a mini run in AC. Nobody is beating Fairfield Go Gaels!

greg, I missed the first half because I thought the game started at 7PM, when in fact it started at six. Down at the half, they played and shot really well (FG% and 3pt%) both in the high forties with about nine TO's. Final was 71-58 and I think there four in double figures, with Givon high with 17. Gomez, Fajardo and Oborilova also in double digits. Next up, Niagara on Saturday. All four who scored in double figures are due back next season. A good foundation for the Lady Gaels.

Tough to win when your TO total tops 30.

I see FF is now ranked 25 by ESPN, but also a 13 seed in their Bracketology. That's pretty weird.

I haven't looked, but I'm assuming they're locked into the 8-9 game, with a potential quarterfinal game against nationally ranked Fairfield.

Women 9th. The starters for most of the year - 2 handpicked starters from her old team, a starter and 6th player from last year, and the 2nd best (probably best given volume) 3pt shooter in the maac + some good, but young, bench players. Should have done better with the talent they have. The season came down to style of play - slow and predictable. Hard to watch and I guess frustrating to play. D got better, but coach needs to get comfortable with faster and more dynamic offence next year.
Rider on Tuesday will be close.

Since we get so little news about the Women's team, it's hard to form an opinion. We had a frosh PG coming off the bench, Maya Zaccagnini, who was playing well, but was lost to a season ending injury, and that hurt the bench. We have a 6'5 transfer from BC, Ally Carman, who has hardly played. And we have no idea if it is injury or talent related. The team can beat Rider, even though I believe we were swept by them in two close games. And (with no surprises) we only lose two players to graduation, so we should be better, next year. JMO.
I'd like to hear from greg on the Women's team, as I'm sure he's seen more of their games.

Even when available Carman wasn't played much. With DeAngelo going, coach likely hitting the portal for a center. Zaccagnini being out did hurt and she would be a key piece next year. Other than Ward (not overly mobile but strong and physical), it seems most of the bench aren't a great fit for the half court heavy system. Looking at the 2 confirmed new commits so far, seems they also like to push the pace, so maybe coach is planning to change things up with DeAngelo (the keystone of the system this year) gone.
