Yup, that summarizes what we talked about while watching. Hard to say where this team will land in the MAAC race.
Thanks for the kind words as well.

The 5 spot is a concern if the team is going to play the same system as last year with DeAngelo. Carman is the only legit center now and she didn't play much last year - hopefully has a good run this year. But playing wings/forwards (eg Ward, Delgado, Donnelly) out of position because they are bigger, and the system needs a center, will be limiting. Lots of successful teams without a traditional center and hopefully coach can adapt and let the forwards play to their strengths.

A nice 'take'. While I don't know the answer, I hope Ally Carman will be back soon. As retired says we need a legit center. And I have no idea how good she is. Was glad to see that she wasn't in a boot, or walking with a limp.

Based on last night's game, about a 32 point loss to UCF, it could be a long season for the Lady Gaels, and not because they make the post season. My hope is that we are better than we looked because UCF is a VG team. We did have Ally Carman back, though she didn't start, and she was the leading rebounder with four before fouling out. IMO, Maya Zaccagnini was our POG and the only scorer in double figures with 13. Navy at home, next Tuesday.

I think mid-pack is a good goal for us, as we are pretty young. Agree re Maya--already my favorite player on the team.

Early foul trouble made it hard to stick to the game plan, which was working early, against a huge team - 7 players over 6'1, a 6'8 and top ranked 6'6 grad.
Maya .... teams most skillful player, but some poor decision making, which may be why she didn't start. She had 8 turnovers and takes a lot of tough shots (5-15). Keep shooting - I really like them getting more shots up than last year (no shot clock violations yesterday- a first in the Szumillo era?), but learn how to get her team more involved (no need to try to beat your player every time) and improve shot quality.
Coach Szumilo has set a brutal OOC schedule... hopefully gets them battle ready for the MAAC and doesn't break them.

Of course, once you found out that she was from CT, you became more impressed.

Women just lost a close game to Navy on Kids Day, 55-53. Nice crowd and a game that could have been won. Zoey Ward and Judith Gomez led the way with double, doubles. No Ally Carman, though she was on the bench. They say that things even out, so I'm expecting a lot of the Iona shots that spun out this morning will drop in, tonight. We'll see.

A very nice crowd for the ladies. But a game they will feel they let get away, especially with a tough road game ahead.
so far in the first 2 games it doesn't look like they replaced the offensive firepower that left last year. it's the sophomores - ward (excellent today), zaccagni (still taking a few too many tough shots), donnelly - stepping up on offense. I think Selgado and Vasquez will impact more. Why no Carman today - she looked good against UCF and her size would have given them options. it's an inexperienced group, but they look like they will put the work in.
