I've been reading previews about Iona BB going back to the 1950's, "Street and Smith", and I don't think that I'm exaggerating when I say that this is either the best or one of the best that I've ever read. Not only a writeup on the individual players, but the writer's opinion of how they will fit in with the team. I feel that I now know more, a lot more, about the team, than I did before reading the preview.
Based on stats alone, I think that we won't have to fear a trip to the foul line, this season.

Thanks Guy, for posting this gem.
Which year and preview would you say was the worst?

It was in the early sixties. Iona wasn't included and I wrote to the writer and asked why wasn't Iona included? I was very surprised as he answered my letter and informed me that Iona didn't reply to his request for info about the team.
For me the writeup came with two surprises: * In the one minute practice video, I was impressed with Christian Winborne's high release when shooting a corner three. And then I read that he was an 18% three point shooter at SJU. * The preview said that Jo Jo Wallace might be a year away from much PT. JMO, but I see him as part of this year's rotation.
I know that the team is off this week, and I'm guessing that the July Summer Semester starts next week, and Guy has told us that all players should be on campus and practicing. So, in an effort to generate some talk about the team, I have a question. After reading the above review of the team, my first reaction is that all thirteen players are good enough to play. But that usually doesn't happen, as injuries and talent limits that number. So, how many players will make up our rotation? And, I realize we are only guessing, even if we got a hint from JB that TA likes a deep rotation.

10.

Guy, thanks. And it makes sense that Reaves, Barr and Rupert, because they only have one year will be in the rotation. I'm going with 11, since I can the possibility that we will play two styles. 1. Traditional. 2. Three Guards.
And now back to BB discussion. After reading the Preview for the 3rd time, in case 1970 is interested, I come away with two questions.
* Guy has said that Reaves will probably lead the team in minutes played. And, it seems that will be the case. But, when he's out, fouls/rest, who will come in off the bench?
* The preview talks about a three guard lineup, that we will play at times. And two players are mentioned as tag-team possibilities, Barr and Emuobor. Barr (D2) has the better stats, while Emuobor played at a higher level (UCF). So, which one will be the third guard?
I understand that we are only guessing, but if we get to see the team in practice or PS, these are two things that I'll be watching.

First one, I'd guess Jojo. Tobin is very high on him as a pure scorer, so it would make sense he is Dejour's backup.
Second one, I'd guess Barr, who is probably 2-3 years older with a lot more college basketball experience.
And that last one is assuming we don't start Biggie at the 3.
Guy, Jo Jo would have been my guess, also. So that is why I was surprised that JB in the Preview named Wallace as being a big part of Iona's future, but of the three frosh guards he will be the one having the toughest time seeing the court, this season. But, since we are only guessing, I'm going with Guy.

Hey, it's Joe's opinion. But he didn't get Tobin's take on Jojo personally over drinks at the golf outing!
