Delaware is bad enough that we can and will come back
Did anyone notice that when we started a comeback, Delaware called a quick timeout?
That's is what the coach should do, settle the team down. Against Hofstra we gave up at least 5 lay-up in a row off the press (Sunday had a bunch), no time out. It wont get better until the coach adjusts to what's happening in the game. We need a coach not a cheer leader!
I can think of only negative statements to make about what I saw tonight so I’ll just hold off. The one positive statement to make is the student section was nice and loud! It’s been a while since I heard them make noise like that!
I would add that the band was also very good. The largest contingent I’ve seen in my almost 50 years of watching Iona hoops…
And, I'm sure if we had programs they would have been very nice, also. I was lucky as I knew all the Iona players, even if none of the visitors. Did hear others asking why no programs.
We don’t have to be happy about last night and I’m not, but slamming the coach, the team and the program is not the answer. Great crowd (especially the students), enthusiastic cheer and dance teams; the band is a major plus. I’m willing and intend to hang in there hoping for a significant turnaround of this team. For you guys on the ledge, hoping you don’t fall off…
Attendance was 75% (2,028) for a home opener
It's not that we will fall off, Tobin is pushing us off!!
Serious question. When (and who) was the last time an Iona player had 18 or more rebounds?
Yaphet did it in 26 minutes played. And speaking of his free throw shooting, his stroke looks better than the results. Seemed like the refs allowed a lot of contact, last night, so that means come Friday a LOT of guys will be in early foul trouble.

I have only seen two of our games so far – Princeton and Delaware.
I’m confused. Judging from last night’s presser, I am not alone. Why is Rupert playing on the perimeter on both offense and on D. On offense, he does not have the handle to take his man, and his lack of handle allows the D to collapse on his move to the hole. His foot speed makes for wide open looks while he is on D. Take a look at last night’s final, and nail in the coffin, tre by Delaware.
While Adam had an impressive debut at Princeton, defenses have adjusted to making hm give up the ball. No surprise there! But who does he give it to? Rupert on the perimeter is not an ideal option; neither is Biggie. And the defense has already rotated to make Adam give up the ball, so the interior is not available to either of them.
Moundi was terrific last night- but, the free throws. Moundi and Rupert on the floor at the same time creates a traffic jam with neither looking for outlet passes to spot up shooters and not enough of the latter is on the floor. For example, Jungers may be a better option to have on the floor than one of the above two. His defense is no worse than Rupert while the latter is on the perimeter. I don’t recall seeing Rupert on the perimeter at St. Peters, and I doubt he was there at SIU.
OK 70, tell me I am an idiot, and for the most part you are right when it comes to basketball. Please go ahead and tell me – for educational benefits.
As frustrated as that game was yesterday, they probably SHOULD have won as they finally got the lead and made back 2 back mistakes with under 90 seconds to go.
Guards are getting into the lane. Would like to see them start shooting the ball, instead of trying to make a crazy passes or getting their shot blocked at the rim.
Quigley adapted that floater last year very well.
In the Princeton game we had players cutting to the hoop without the ball. Much less of that against Hofstra and Delaware.
Agree here 100%. Lots more standing around and 1-on-1 ball.
The greatest poster in the history of the MAAC as determined by THREE separate polls.

We play the 5 out motion offense. Unless you have players cutting to the hoop without the ball you wind up with players like Rupert that are not in optimal position to score.
Pretty confident that we will do much better in our home opener, IF TA follows this suggestion. We will know when the starters walk out on the court. Remember, in the PS there was a lot of suggestion whether we will go big or small. And TA chose big, but so far it hasn't worked. By transitioning to a smaller lineup, I'm hoping for the following lineup changes.
* Sit Yaphet and bring him in off the bench. * Move Biggie from SF to PF, where, imo, he seems better suited. * Replace Yaphet in the starting lineup with Jo Jo, as I think a three guard lineup will help both the offense and defense. Biggie will handle the ball less and thus cut down on TO's. * Since TA sees the guys in practice, he might want to go with Bundy. I wouldn't go with Comeh, because he seems more like an under sized Four.

In the first half it seemed all fouls were on Iona.
The Stat of the night was 31 offensive rebounds. Is that a school record?
What's amazing off of those 31 rebounds, only 18 2nd chance points. Do you know how difficult it is to do that?
Have to move on to Friday night vs a rested Vermont team. Merrimack beat them, and yes they will be a problem in the MAAC, but honestly Vermont was playing there 3rd game in like 5-6 days.
This will be a very tough game and quite telling on how the Gaels respond

Well, at least Vermont will be rusty, being off so long.
This is a tough call. After last night's game I was told that I could spend $500 for a session with a Psychiatrist or post on this Board for nothing. Let's see Doctor or Board, Board or Doctor. Too close to call and no monitor to check.

Jonathon Duck had 20 in 1990 against I believe Seton Hall. This may be the best since then.
