Unfortunately, after 5 games, this team has shown some serious flaws. The season has gotten off to the worst offense I have seen by an Iona team. Shooting is terrible and an A/TO ratio of 47/89. I believe the shooting will improve, but the A/TO stuff is a major concern.
Njie has the potential to be the next great Iona guard. Every opponent has struggled to stay in front of him and keep him out of the lane, BUT he has to play more under control. The majority of his passes are made while on the move or actually after leaving his feet. Being a FR hopefully the game slows down a bit for him and the coaches are working on that at practice. It's only been 5 games, but not one sign of improvement in that area yet.
Having said that, while a disappointing 1-4, just finished what will be by far the toughest 5 game stretch of the season.
Couple plays in the Princeton and Delaware games and we're looking at 3-2, instead of 1-4, despite how poor the offense has been. Yeah, I know your record says what you are, but I'm waiting to see how the next 8 games play out to judge where this season is headed.
More on thar in a bit. I know y'all can't wait to hear my thoughts!! Lol

Last season’s offense was horrendous also, especially the (lack) of movement without the ball. This season the team is moving a little better without the ball, but we don’t have the outside shooting we did last season.
Njie is a real talent. As you point out he is making mistakes that relate to inexperience. I believe that he will correct those.
The larger issue is that our offense, this season and last, often seems pointless, or perhaps objective less. Lots of movement AWAY from the basket. Too much dribbling through traffic (again, often not toward the basket). Almost no screens designed to free up a shooter. Very little cutting toward the basket after making a pass. Few attempts at baseline cuts. Few post up plays for Rupert where he can spin without dribbling. And of course the general inability to hit open threes when we have an opportunity, the puzzling failure to finish point blank shots (usually off an offensive rebound), and our woeful free throw shooting.
The team (this year and last) does not look like they understand what to do on offense (if they are doing what they have been told to do we have a much bigger problem).

Have to fix this ASAP.
All good points, and can't really disagree on any. Have lost count how many times Rupert and Moundi have been stripped trying to dribble drive into the paint. I agree it's a head scratcher at times, why they stop cutting to the hoop at times, since that's when they look the best by far. I'm far from a coach, so can't figure out why that happens, but hopefully it's something the staff is drilling into their heads.
There's a great site called Hoop-math, that breaks down every players shot attempts from the rim, mid-range and beyond the arc. Haven't updated in a bit, but will be interesting to see the shooting percentages of all the guys from each level.
How could you not miss Pitino? He got players to come to Iona that we were never able to get before or after. We played a very good schedule, in big arenas, we had an ATEN team come to New Rochelle.
Yeah, he wasn't an altar boy, but all that mattered is we won a lot of games and made the post season every year.
What we now have is an embarrassment for a program. Sad.
We never played once at MSG (yes I know one game was cancelled due to covid).
Don't remind me of this. I will never forgive Willard for backing out of that game. We were definitely gonna win and woulda had wins over bama and seton hall.

Per KenPom, we have turned the ball over on 25.5% of our possessions. That’s good for 357th in the country. There are 364 D1 teams. 13.8% (361st) of that 25.5% is “Non-Stl TO’s” Which means TO’s that don’t result in a steal for the opposing team. Traveling, throwing the ball out of bounds, stepping on line, etc.
I have yet to see a detailed Tobin Anderson team in 38 games. FG% 40.8% (343rd) FT% 63.4% (314th)

Can only go up from here…
There is real talent on the roster. Njie and Biggie will become effective offensive players. I expect things to get better. That is certainly my hope.
We just cannot approach things the same way and expect different results.

Biggie played best at power forward but went back to small forward, that also would help spread the floor helping njie drive

Wasn't that Sha?
nope. Sha was still at Saint Peters. This was the jolly and joiner team.

You might need a Hewlett Packard financial calculator to figure out the Moundi, Rupert. Emuobor, Biggie paint strips.

No, winning is NOT all that matters.
The greatest poster in the history of the MAAC as determined by THREE separate polls.

suit yourself if your content with a mediocre program.
Have to admit I was probably wrong on West Virginia, tied with Gonzaga with 6 seconds left. They may be a bubble like team. Looks like they have a good new coach.
