Good second half Saturday v. Turkey, a decent squad. In the first half we looked lost again on the back line. Thought Robbie Findlay played very well in the second and Donovan got into form. Will need more consistent play. I think we play Australia on Sat. in a warm up in So. Africa.
England struggled yesterday v. Japan. Won 2-1 on 2 own goals by Japan. Wow!

I saw the 2nd half vs Turkey. This US team is a bit more creative offensively than other US teams have been, but you're right, some holes on the defensive end. Curious to see how they perform at the WC.

Rio Ferdinand injured today in practice, he's out for the WC. For us, Altidore sprained his ankle yesterday. Don't know the status.

Never was much of a soccer fan, but this thread, and you die-hard soccer fans have perked my interest....Decided to give it a try, and make a effort to watch them.....So far I have watched 4 games for a total of about 360 minutes of action....There have been exactly 5 total goals made, with two of the games ending in ties......I have a insistant ringing in my ears that I can't get rid of from the horns from hell....I am going to give it one more try with the 2 pm game between USA and England ...
Sorry guys, I need more action, scoring and a final game winner....I would hope they would find a way to increase scoring as the NHL did, and GET RID OF THE HORNS.....Nill Nill is not my thing.....
Can't wait until Basketball and its 3 point a minute pace as oppossed to soccer's 1 an hour..
JMO. but respect all others....
Go Gaels!!!!!!

Vaccaro is an idiot... instead of writing a book on a baseball scandal from 100 years ago he should have written a book on his beloved Bonnies and their scandal. He also needs to pull his head out of his ___!!!!!!!

Would love to see soccer eliminate off-sides except, for example, inside the box. The goalie can only handle the ball within the goal area. I think you would see the type of game OT is looking for.

He can either put three in on us or get tossed for punching someone. Also watch Dempsey and Donavan from the US and their ball movement. Root hard if Buddle plays for the US today... he is a New Rochelle product.

Again, I get why Americans don't like soccer. It's the beauty of the game itself and the pure athleticism that attracts me. I know today's game was 1-1, but for the life of me I can't see how anyone could say that was boring. I was watching with a good mix of England and U.S. fans at a local Irish Soccer bar and I was on the edge of my seat the entire game. Allot of back and forth, and yes the USA was lucky to get out with a tie. This tournament builds excitement as it progresses. Now we just have to beat Algeria and Slovenia and we move on! Go USA!

Oldtimer, I used to feel like you do, but something opened my eyes to the game and this tournament. Today's 1-1 tie w/ England was strategically advantageous for us. We get a point like in hockey and we're still alive to move on. Plus its not just the scoring that is to be appreciated. Strategy, athleticism, the beauty of play is all entertaining to me. I was on the edge of my seat like GC. And believe me, if England has a disappointing cup, this match will be talked about there forever, especially our goal. One thing that draws me to the WC is the drama. A 1-1 game in the 80th minute with everything hanging in the balance. Not so much for us, but these other countries live and die with this. A poor performance can topple a government in some places. No other tournament has more riding on the outcome of games in my opinion.
