I hated the fact that we were picked as 10 point favorites. We got out played tonight, especially on the boards.
Thanks to Alejo and Rah for their years at Iona. I wish them the best. They are really good guys.
I think that the post season really gave those remaining a boost. I am hoping for even a a more successful season come November. I know that with hard work, it can happen.
We have a real star in Tim Cluess. I hope that we can keep him and his staff for many years to come. They can bring Iona to the next level.
Go Gaels!!!
ETA: The SC fans that showed up here were class act folks. I'd like to see a rematch one day.

I guess we don't play our best in championship games where we're favored by 10, have a nice turnout and the opponent is a saint (in any language). Congratulations to Santa Clara. Everytime we made a run, they seemed to have an immediate answer. They were the better team tonight. Best of luck to Rah and Alejo... two great players both on and off the court. Great season by the Gaels. The future looks very bright.

There's no reason for the Gaels to hang their heads. I am sure that they are disappointed, but for a team that was picked 4th in the MAAC, they did a great job this season.
I love the Glove and Scott is great at the point. With JJ, Trinity, a healthy Kyle and Sean we should be able to score the ball. We have a lot of talent and I believe that TC will get that talent working together.
I'm looking forward to November already -- in fact it looks as though we'll have some November type weather here in Northern Virginia tonight. :bangs head on desk:
Go Gaels!!!

In my humble opinion it doesn't look good that we had two championship games where we were the favorites and lost both games. I think they still call that choking and/or being out coached.

Sometimes shots just do not fall. If there is anything we need to work on it's free throw shooting.
ETA: Tonight we just got killed on the boards.

Some bad breaks. Missed assignment.
Sean showed up and played well. What a cool cat. Scott had a good second half. Not so good first.
We fell asleep in the first half. Great timeout by the SC coach to turn the tide.
JJ very hot and cold. Cold tonight.

Killed on the boards doesn't come close. I didn't see the final figures; however, late in the game the differential was around 25! There is no way to win with that disparity. I can't remember ever seeing that kind of difference. JJ is starting to fall into a bad habit. When he is on, he is red hot. But, when he is not on, he is an offensive liability. Tonight was a repeat of his St. Peter's game. He has to find a way to get over that. On the positive side - we have definitely found a star for the next 3 years. Sean Armand is going to light it up for the Gaels! Congratulations and Thanks to Alejo and Rah for being the fine players they were and for being even better human beings. They are a credit to Iona and their families. They leave with their heads held high! Their leadership this year was a major factor in our run. They will be missed. The leadership mantle is now squarely on the shoulders of Scott, Mike and Trinity! Next game - Puerto Rico! See everyone there!
P.S. I apologize for not having led with this - Congratulations to Santa Clara. No question, you deserved this victory. Enjoy your celebration and have a great trip back home.

I think the rebound difference was an error. The boxscore has it much closer.
JJ and Scott had bad shooting nights from 3.

Once again Mike was 8 for 11. He needed more touches. JJ and Scott 5 for 22

The stat board definitely wasn't right. I have no idea where or why that number was coming up.

Congrats to Santa Clara. Great job by them on the road. Thought we had a chance to bury them early on, but we missed a fair amount of wide open looks early.

I have to say, your coach, your players, and your fans are first class. Not like your roguish brothers in Moraga. Regarding the rebounding difference, yes it was unbelievable. As I understand, we had +7 edge in attributable rebounds PLUS we had 11 team rebounds. To me, the difference in the game was Trasolini's SIX offensive rebounds. A few of those were tip-ins/layups off of misses. Those six ORBs resulted in more than 7 points, if I recall correctly. In addition, we had some guys who literally played the best game of their careers. Notably Santos (a graduating senior) and Cowels. Dowdell (another senior) had the second best game of his career. Also, Keating made some good adjustments and timeout calls. Trust me, this was probably his best coaching job in the 4 years he has been here. Your team is very good -- Glover is a stud! In my opinion, Iona overplayed the perimeter defensively, which led to many interior baskets (and also what led to our rebounding edge, IMO). I sincerely hope the Powers-That-Be schedule a rematch in Santa Clara in the fall. If they don't, I might have to petition the Vatican. Good luck to my favorite Gaels, -b P.S. if we do play Iona at SCU, and any of you decide to come out for the game, pop on over to our board and let us know. We Broncos are hospitable folks (unless you are USF Dons, St. Mary's Gaels, or Gonzaga Bulldogs) and we'll be sure to buy you a libation or two while you are out here. Cheers!
