Now that we're into January, we should start to keep an eye on this. Here's the link to the home and away field for the BB: www.espnmediazone3.com/us/2011/09/28/espn%E2%80%99s-sears-bracketbusters-features-largest-pool-in-history/Here is RPIforecast.com's ratings of teams included in the BB--yes, the site actually has a page devoted to this. www.rpiforecast.com/bb.htmlThe thing to note--they PROJECT what your RPI is at the time of the announced pairings at the end of the month. Interestingly, they have Iona losing at Fairfield, and still Iona is projected to rank 3rd among the home teams, behind Creighton and Murray State. The top 3 road teams are St Mary's, Wichita St and Long Beach St. Northern Iowa is close behind at 4th. As the site shows, after those top 4 there is a dropoff--so we absolutely HAVE to play well enough this month to host one of these 4 teams. Of course, if we win out this month, we have a good chance of being in the #1 game, with the #2 game a virtual lock. A couple losses this month, though, and we slip down too far to even host a top 100 opponent, which won't do much for our RPI. So, the goal--play well enough to stay in the top 4 at minimum. Play really well and we're looking at a prime time game on ESPN at Hynes.

What I think also helps us is that if we're playing well, we're a fun team to watch/broadcast. We'd be a good fit for a marquee TV spot.

I'd love to see any of those four teams at the Hynes, and on national TV!

My guess is that the 2 west coast teams are less likely. I think they generally try to keep a bracketbuster road team from having to fly from one coast to another. St. Marys and Long Beach State probably wouldn't be asked to fly to NY

Last year, we got Liberty which was a down game for us. The prior year we hosted William and Mary which was a down game for them and beating them virtually eliminated them from any at-large consideration (which I believe at the time they were hoping to draw).

The geographic thing is correct--but for the non-marquee games only. If most of those other teams crap out in January and the two Gaels teams rip through the month, there is NO QUESTION they'll send St Mary's to us.

Don't underestimate the matchup of Machado vs. Ware with LBSU. At this point for us in the department it's a guessing game as well. Guy is right there are no geographic limitations for the TV matchups.

I think Iona's exciting style of play and marquee players are going to get us a top 3 game. Hopefully Hynes being so small isn't seen as a negative. They may favor the bigger leagues like the MVC for more of a TV audience, but could easily send someone like Wichita State to Iona to get an exciting team like Iona against a bigger drawing TV audience like Wichita State.

Can never have too many! Meant to do it when I created the thread, but forgot.

W/o a doubt, imo, Creighton is the top team that will play a BB game. At present we're probably a top five, with the ability to move up. I don't know if Creighton is scheduled for a home or away game, but they have a top forward, McDermott (forget his first name, who is also the coach's son. B/t/w he had 44 points yesterday, and he and Mike would be a VG matchup. I'm sure ESPN would like a sexier venue for their marquee (Sp?) game.

Agree, Hynes looked small and high-schoolish on Friday night. Don't remember it looking as bad recently. I'm thinking b/c of that we may not get an ESPN game, but rather ESPNU. Maybe Mr. Marshall can call up MSG and see if its open that day

Let's get St. Mary's and beat em up. If the records dictate it, a Gaels vs. Gaels match-up should attract attention. Right now, both teams are very good.
