Time to move on and start another winning streak. And what better way than to beat the coach who once yelled at Iona fans, "I'm gonna get some real players and come back here and kick your ass!" ;D
Loyola presents some similar challenges to what we saw with Manhattan. The Hounds can score points, and I believe they lead the MAAC in offensive rebounding. Also believe they will bring energy as we saw with the Jaspers, and may try to mimic what Manhattan did in the 2nd half offensively--relentlessly driving into the paint, challenging us to make a few stops.
On defense, I'm not sure how they'll play us. Teams usually zone us, but Manhattan last night went man in the 2nd half and were content to let Glover get some points while doing more to contest 3s. May see a similar approach Sunday.
The Hounds are playing a 9 pm tipoff tonight on ESPNU at Fairfield. Good chance to see how they play the Stags, then try to switch things up to take on the Anti-Stags in terms of approach.
Some housekeeping: On Sunday, the Iona women's team plays at 1 pm--the women won again today without Kristina, blowing out Rider to move to 3-2 in the MAAC. Both losses were tight ones on the road, so this team is doing well. Come out and see them play! The Goal Club reception will be between the women's game and the men's game, and there will be the usual halftime reception at the pool during the men's game, but there is NO postgame reception.
Hope to see y'all on Sunday!

They also have a good 3 point shooter in Cormier. It will be another tough game.

I usually do not post but check this site all the time. I was at the game last night and will be at the game on Sun. I still believe in these guys...There are some areas that need to be addressed. This team seems to want to coast with a lead and get lazy on help D. THIS IS FIXABLE....Other mid-majors in the nation are going to lose some conf games as well... We should be the 1 seed and then we will see what happens. Better to learn in Jan. then in the MAAC tournament. Lets keep positive they should be ready to go on Sunday...I will!

Back in my day we called it 'Getting the apple'. It simply meant you Choked on your adams apple. Iona did big time. They were so afraid of losiing a game that they should have easily won that they actualy did. This is a common occurence in the sport world. From about the mid way point of the second half they played the clock instead of the Hounds. ..A simple time out or two at a crucial time might have done the trick . Now for some good news...I hope..........I Will be at the game Sunday...Say hello. I will be using the wip and makng sure of a victory.

oldtimer, your presence at the game with whip in hand will be just the ticket for a Gael win. Glad to see that you are continuing to improve.
I am looking forward to seeing a refocused team get a convincing win over a pretty good Loyola squad.
Go Gaels!!!

LU just came back from down 15 to beat FF. We're playing to stay in first place on Sunday. Both IC and LU are 5-1.
We better be ready.
Go Gaels!!!

That collapse was exactly like the Gaels on Thursday. This is a big game on Sunday, too bad it the same time as the Giants. Maac scheduling has hurt attendance for a big game and it is their own fault. The only thing they are smart enough to do is not have games the same exact time as the Super Bowl. Attendance will be interesting.

We better respect this team. They play hard and extremely determined and have good size and skill in the frontcourt. We'll need our best effort for 40 minutes. Also, Joebird is dead on regarding the MAAC scheduling. This is a terrific matchup that will suffer attendance-wise because of the NFL playoffs.

The fact that Loyola just won at Fairfield AND this game is for first should have our attention. If it doesn't, we'll be back in the CIT again.

Iona is a 12-point favorite against Loyola tomorrow. Vegas still loves us.

Vegas knows Iona can be one of the best teams in the country.
I would never bet for or against us ever, we could win by 30 or lose.

Crazy hoops season so far-- FL St beats # 3 UNC 90-57, ending 9 game winning streak. UNC averaging 85.2 ppg to our 85.1. Go figure!
