Hang in there guys. I still think Iona is going to win the tournament in Springfield. Loyola played great last night and the homecourt made a big difference. Iona doesn't get down 25 they probably win.
I think four teams have a shot to win in Springfield- Iona, Loyola, Manhattan and Fairfield. But I'd still make Iona a 9-5 favorite to cut the nets down.

I think one thing Cluess is having a lot of trouble with is he prefers a tight, set rotation, and other then Glover and Machado no one else has been consistent enough to have set roles.
He has made Momo get 34+ minutes every night but some nights he just hasn't earned that especially considering how good his back ups can be.
Not sure if there is enough time left for Cluess to figure out a set lineup but I think he needs to get Armand & Jenkins consistent more minutes down the stretch and he can do this by playing more 4 guards, cutting Smyth's minutes to about 20 a game and reducing Momo to about 30 a game.

"These guys played with more intensity under Willard"ichoops--Which guys: Momo, Glover, Armand, Ridley, Diggs, James? ?? Machado was #2 last year now #1 in assists--only after KW left. Thank You

They need to realize that unlike offense, they can't run a 3 second defense.
The strategy against Iona is to dictate the pace by being very patient on offense. Run about 25 seconds off the shot clock and you'll end up waltzing down the lane for a layup or dunk.

Armand & Jenkins need more time on the court.
Here is my take.... Iona needs to stick to what works for them. Bang the ball down to Glover and let him attack the basket. When the D collapses on him he will either draw fouls or be able to kick it out for the open jumper. Glover was telling Scott and MoMo to get him the ball yet the only two who were feeding him in the first half was Armand and Smyth.
On a few rebounding situations Glover did not even jump nor boxout.
When Taj is hot he is a great asset.... when his head is elsewhere he is a huge detriment. I would rather see Randy or Diggs help with the D. Hell... give Josh Gomez a few minutes...at least the kid tries hard.
Against a longer team like Loyola, Scott has to pull up for the short jumper when he penetrates and stop going for the layup.
If MoMo is not hot and Armand is, MoMo has got to stop shooting the three with the game on the line.
The team needs to refocus. Glover needs to sit down with these guys and explain that this was their final wakeup call.... This team needs to look for the open player and work instead of just putting up shots.
Cluess should have these guys watch movies like Braveheart and the 300 before every game to get these guys ready... they looked like a 5th grade CYO team in the first half. They need to work hard every minute.

I can tell you that the atmosphere at the Reitz last night was unlike I had ever seen there. I started going to the games in 1999 when it was not surprising to see no more than 30 people in the arena. The H.S. band that they brought in a few years ago gets the place loud. The student section is loud and animated. They really pumped up LU when the Hounds made at least 3 dunks early in the game and then started draining 3s.
We indeed dug ourselves a hole in the first half. While I am not one to blame a loss on the refs, some of the calls were just horrible. On a lot of the chippie shots that Glove usually makes he was mugged going up and nothing was called. Mike was also called for a number of walks on rebounds. He was pushed, causing the steps. Nothing was called. It really turned the game around. Late in the second half when we were making a run and playing full court defense, I saw two 10 second calls which the refs should have called against Loyola. Those turnovers could have been huge.
These guys need to stop worrying about bad calls and play through them. It seemed that the calls really got in their heads. Regardless, we cannot spot LU 25 and expect to win. I am pretty certain that I saw the 2 best teams in the MAAC last night. I still believe that we can beat any team in this conference. Unfortunately, I think we can lose to any team in the conference if we do not come out with a purpose.
Hold your heads up Gaels and Gael fans. We’re in for an exciting finish of the season and hopefully, three wins in Springfield.
Go Gaels!!!

I'm disappointed that this season has gone this way in league play. But what we've learned is that whenever they believed they were the best, they lost. Same thing last year. Best thing to happen to us is for Loyola to finish first and reach the finals.

Great little clip synopsis on ICGaels. One thing is very telling. Lots of open looks for Loyola in the first half off the break. Gaels slow getting back. Credit Loyola for making them.
Not a great game for Scott is 6 or 7 scouts in attendance.

What I did like about last night was that when they were down 25 Glover finally got pissed, showed more emotion and leadership than he has in the past. I hope he stays pissed!

They should all be pissed until the end of March!!!! For some this is it...you either get it together or give it to someone else...the choice is up to them....everything to gain or everything to lose...at this stage of the game no excuses...just do it!!!

It is this simple.... this team has to decide it's place in school history. They will either be remembered as one of the great Iona teams of all time or they will be remembered as a talented team that was a major disappointment.... it is their choice. It is that simple.
I think they will step up.

Have only posted something once before...I really just enjoy reading everyones comments on a regular basis. This is a great message board.
Watching the Loyola game the other night left me very frustrated though. Is it just me or does this this team, more times than not, just stand around and wait for Machado or Momo to do something? I don't see ANY movement or ball reversals. No cutting through passing lanes or picks being set. They really appear like they have no offensive sets to run........It's really amazing that adjustments are not often made, when things start going badly. AND......can someone other than Glover please play with an urgency to REBOUND the darn ball!!!!!! They are so concerned with "running" the fast break, they don't have enough of an urgency to hit the boards and get the ball first.
Let me know what you think

Armand should be playing a LOT more than he does as well. A LOT more.
Would also like to see Diggs and Gomez at least get a few minutes here and there. Rotation is too tight.
