Agreed re AJ although I would give Poole the nod in this particular game given his big east experience. He's one of the few on the roster who has experience going into venues like this.
Experience is one thing but he came to us averaging 4 ppg and he is currently averaging 4 ppg, so the hell with that BIG EAST experience. My guess, Cluess will start him though, leave AJ at the point and bring Bowman off the bench.
And BTW this thread is sickening listening to all the negatives, spreads and words like "keep it respectful" and "lets hope the boys keep it close for 30 minutes" "this is a great opportunity." Whatever, these are all division one student athletes who work hard everyday to win. We know talent is the divider but we also know sometimes hard work beats talent so how about a little bit of encouragement for your MAAC champs and IONA Gaels with two consecutive NCAA appearances.
Hell, maybe they'll find Dorothy (Wizard of Oz) before the game for some extra luck.

Way to go 05; these kids need to recall our history of knocking off ranked teams! I'm wearing my red shoes out there!
05, as I said when Guy "leaked' the "don't be surprised if Mike Poole is our starting point guard" that I'd be VERY, VERY, VERY surprised. It sounded too much like a coach's ploy to light a fire under Tavon Sledge, by leaking this.. Epatrick, to his credit, posted that AJ English had the skills to play the point, and on Saturday, in our second game he did play the point. And looked fairly comfortable doing so, but it's going to take quite a few games before he becomes an average or even above average PG. If kept at that position he could go into next season as a VG PG, in my opinion. Poole has shown that he's a pretty good rebounder and defender, but has yet to show the ability to knock down outside shots. But I just find it hard to believe that we'll face the toughest opponent on our schedule with MP as PG. But I realize that anything is possible.
Since, realisticly, I don't see any way to win this game, I would like to see if Daniel Robinson and David Laurey can play together. IMO, they will, next year.

Agreed ic59. get Robinson and Hines some minutes this game and play Robinson and Laury together a little bit. Going to need the length to compete on the boards.

A few comments on the Gaels before heading out to Lawrence.
This team is at its best when sharing the ball, and we already have two samples when they don’t do that. First half against Cleveland State – 10 assists and a 17 point lead. The other sample is the second half against Wofford - 10 assists and a 17 point differential. As a bone to my friend from Atlanta – chels, we only had 5 assists in the Wofford first half and managed to eke a 4 point lead. SLG's goal for this team - 20 assists per game.
Anyone else notice how quickly Tre’s butt was on the bench in the second half when he attempted to go one-on-one. Tre knew it – he walked right off the court.
The new color scheme does not come over too well on ionainsider. Poor definition. Hope that this is because the TV crew is still adjusting to the lighting. The new Flash board on the other side of the court may be compounding the problem.
I was impressed with AJ at the point – the young man is good athlete and is still knocking off the rust. Someone else mentioned this and I agree; we are not yet getting the ball to David where he has optimal looks.
Super was right about IW. If anything, super may have downplayed how good IW is. Two people flash as I saw IW – Warren Isaacs, Edwin Ubiles. I think IW works harder than Edwin – goes inside more.
Daniel Robinson has upside. They took advantage of his “freshmanness” a few times and sealed him off on D. He should spend some time with Sabrina J. Watched a little bit of the women’s games. Sabrina does not let anyone get between her and the hoop and stays on the floor while getting her blocks. She does not take the fake. Navy wanted no part of going inside against her.
Off to KU, and SLG is not going over there to see KU scrimmage.
I have learned over the years that in sports anything can happen. Can Iona win, yes, now an awful lot would have to go right but it is possible, most importantly we would have to be extraordinarily hot from 3. If we played this game 20 times I think Gaels win once.
I hate reading Sean say he expects us to win (Zagoria blog), I know he is just trying to be positive, but you just don't want that to get out to Kansas, we don't need them to have any extra motivation. Reminds me of pre Ohio State.
Kansas is now #2 ranked. Once before Iona knocked off a #2. You never know, that is why they play the games.
Last comment-doubt you will see Cluess go beyond a 7 man rotation, don't expect to see Hines or other bench players unless we get into major foul trouble.

Thanks SLG. Understatement is my thing! I mentioned to CJB that I thought IW was Sean Green under control. Where are you staying?

Have not decided yet. I am driving over tomorrow morning - about a 5 hour drive. Am going to start looking at Hotels again in the next few minutes. Tried the Oread and that is sold out. Any suggestions??

I've heard that Wiggens will not start and play many minutes...His coaches feel that as a Freshman with only 2 games under his belt, he lacks experience.....
Does anybody know if there is any other free site that will be broadcasting the game just in case for ESPN 3 were in a blackout zone, which the video will then not work?
