Interesting weekend. I noticed that Walter Mitty, the west coast Sienna fan, spent the weekend on our site. The guy is supposedly young (late20’s, early 30’s), well educated (Cal and now GT), beautiful wife for whom Guy will vouch (Guy never met a beautiful woman, and not post her picture on Twitter), two kids etc. “I go skiing in morning, golfing in afternoon, swimming at noon, drinking wine at night.” Life is great, right? All night Saturday night and all day Sunday on the Iona Board, pimping the Sienna Saints and his equally decrepit MAAC Board. Get a grip Walter! And speaking of blowing leads – go back to spending your Saturday nights on Haight-Ashbury. Oh, and I see we whipped Sienna again. The ships have passed! Is this her?

Marin is quite beautiful but has an avg yearly temp of 57 degrees! Brrr!!
"Seasonally, even hourly, the weather here in Marin County varies greatly! When visiting Marin it is wise to come prepared by bringing clothing you can layer on and off, so that you can explore different areas without getting overly hot or too cold." Although not quite as dramatic as San Francisco... It's Micro-climate is oft unpredictable and all four seasons can be experienced in a single afternoon"
Talking about wine and the release date of new iPhone wears on me after a few moments and seems to be the primary topic of all conversations.

More about me: Grew up in Brooklyn. Went to Siena. Graduated with a Comp Sci Degree & a Marketing Degree (minor: philosophy). Ran the dog pound for 2 years. Moved to SF. Went to Cal for Grad School. Graduated with MBA in 07, and IT Masters in 09. Married since '08. Two kids: 1 daughter (3), 1 son (10 months). Bi curious with a heavy pain killer problem. Guy's also sort of in my will. I'm getting my doctorate at Georgia Tech through a company program and I REALLY wanted Siena to win, so I could rile you all up more... But that didn't happen , and I'm really feeling sad inside about it. So, when you attempt your high level IT doctoral dissertation at that infamous center of intellectualism--GT-- , I propose you spell it "Suggestion Board" not "Suggestion Goard" as in your locked thread! You can take Walter out of Sienna, but Sienna remains with Walter.

NorCal Has miserable weather... don't let him fool you. Taking your boat out 365 is unlikely as July on SF Bay is colder than you can imagine. A few sunny afternoons per year at Tiburon can be quite pleasant but hardly compares to the lifestyle of Manhattan Beach, Malibu or San Diego in SoCal. I do travel to SF on occasion as Lucas Films is a client of mine but anything more than a few days is down right depressing. I'd much rather surf in the morning (in 80 degree weather) have lunch on the sand, make a short drive to SoCal mountains for afternoon ski session and end up by the pool in Palm Springs or Rancho Mirage for dinner. NorCal folks always seem angry and feel a need to tell you why it is so great to live in 47 degree fog year round. I have probably spent more time in the Bay area than WalterPanic - Monterey Peninsula is still considered part of Bay area, right?? Agree, beautiful area - when you see it through the friggin fog.

gtm - I love SoCal too. I have a house in Dana Point. I got married at Marbella Country Club (San Juan Capistrano).
We have a rental open in Laguna Niguel if you know anyone. Partial water views.

Sounds like you're aware of how much better life can be! Nobody in Manhattan Beach has a vacation home in SF/Marin. (they do in Mammoth ...or Tahoe, sure)
You're right about Marbella and Dana Point! It is quite nice down there... and love St. Regis in DP (Better than Montage IMO). Great for a quick getaway from the kids and perfect for leaving them just overnight w/ the nanny. I'm much more partial to Manhattan Beach though as it has the beach and so much going on right in town. I almost never have to drive anywhere on weekends. Park the car on Friday and no need to see it again till Monday. I can walk to dozens of restaurants/bars and high end shops within steps from the beach... 30 miles of bike paths and a warm water break.... (and the city is spotlessly clean) Living in NorCal is pretty.... but wouldn't trade the warm weather and sound of waves waking me up in the morning..... frontier living in the wilds of desolate Marin cannot compare. Ha!
Wait, sorry... I'm getting off topic! Siena sucks donkey balls! Go Gaels!

gtm72, way to go! Lure them in and then whack them. We refer to that as "just like clubbing baby seals". I feel that you just cannot resist when opportunities present themselves.

Ha! Wait, sorry... I'm getting off topic! Siena sucks donkey balls! Go Gaels! It's not a vacation home for us. We rent out Dana point for weekend and seasonal incomes. It's close to the Marriott right up on the cliff. Laguna Niguel house is a long term rental. But, I have no problem with living either place. I've lived in both. My wife grew up in Laguna Beach, so we go down often. We just prefer the Bay Area overall. LA is a bit smoggy and the traffic is horrible. Orange County is a better situation. Neither has much character though which is why I love SF. It feels more like an East Coast town and has a real city feel and skyline. LA just doesn't, but it is warner. The best weather is really San Diego. As far as the NorCal/SoCal debate goes, it's a big issue for Cali natives and that's about it. As a native NYer, I am supposed to be predisposed to cherish NY above all, so putting either place ahead of NY is a big step. My job allows me to live in either NorCal or SoCal (and to an extent, I do) which is why I'm not emotionally attached to either place. Right now, I prefer NorCal but that could change quickly, and I could easily start using my current home as a vacation house living in Dana Point instead. That was basically the concept when we set it up originally. Regarding the local resorts, we prefer St. Regis as well. We've loved it ever since we spent the first night of our honeymoon there in this massive beautiful suite (LAX to Argentina the next evening). We were actually there this Christmas as well. It was unseasonably warm and we spent the day after Christmas at the pool. I prefer it over the Montage as well, but the Montage is on the beach which is a plus. There is also the Ritz, which isn't too shabby. We do have actual vacation homes in Yosemite on Bass Lake, and a house I inherited on the North Fork of LI. We do spend considerable time at both places.
