We need to respect Rider; not fear them. We won 8 more conference games than they did, including beating them twice.

Would be lying if I said I wasn't a bit scared about our matchup with Rider on Sat. Was hoping Monmouth would pull off the upset. Need to be "worried" not "scared" in a one and out environment. Overall, we handled these guys and should do so again. Need Focus!

This is the best 8th seed in the maac since 97 Fairfield, which knocked off #1 Iona and won the tourney. Sure we should win if we play like we should, but there is less room for error than a normal 1-8 game, we are likely just a 7.5 favorite. Both games they came back quickly from big deficits so no lead is safe, must play well throughout.

We had Rider down big in both of our games and let them back in it before beating them in each. On Saturday we need to get them down 20 and extend the lead. The defense of our MAAC Championship (and a ticket to The Dance) starts at noon on Saturday. One game at a time, Gaels.
Go Gaels!!!

That Fairfield team was an anomoly. They had big time injuries during the season who were all up to speed by Tourney time. If I recall correctly as a 16 seed in the NCAAs they gave Duke a scare.
TCB on Saturday, Iona.
Go Gaels!!!

All I meant by this is they have proven they can come back against us, taking a big early lead is not good enough, must keep the pedal to the metal. If we play well we win, if they play mediocre we win, if we play mediocre and they play well this is a tight game. Basically I am just saying this is a dangerous 8 seed, but we are the best team in the league and if we play well all 3 games we will win it, just hard to play well for 3 games, must survive the average game as we did last year against Manhattan in the Maac championship.

I have brainwashed him already to know Iona can lose any game and he remembers the BYU game so its not hard to pass my pessimism on. But i also was one of the first to say this team had the potential to be great so I do know this team is as likely to win as anyone. If you guys want I will say what you want to hear, there is no way Iona won't beat Rider and win this tourney.

Protect the ball against Rider's press, and have players other than AJ bring the ball up against pressure, and we'll be fine against Rider

Also don't forget ever since we retired Richie Guerin's jersey we've changed the mojo.

Every Maac tourney is nerve wracking but more so when your the favorite and for me more so because I think this team and coach Cluess has a great chance to win an NCAA game or two if they can get in.
