Thanks Super. Wish I saw that in person. Most excited about the potential of Casimir! Someone mentioned Amayo missed a couple of bunnies. For the record those were in traffic with guys hanging on him. Rust. The rim was rusty?

Have to say after watching the team for the first time last night the player reports from the board members the last couple months were pretty spot on. Casimir was even better than I thought he was going to be. big balls by the smallest player on the court to take and make that big 3 for the lead. I think IBN played ok and will supply solid play when needed. surprised to see both IBN and Casimir on the floor together at times. Amayo by the time MAAC play really gets going in January is going to be a major factor. I think it was Guy who said Amayo is a one man fast break and now I understand what he meant. going to have some bumps in the road in the OOC against the teams with length, but last night solidified in my mind that our top 6 is the best in the MAAC. need Hines and Ellis/Robinson to be able to play a few solid minutes a game and this will be a very good season again.

Some great reports on the game here. Just add 2 more cents. I think Dublin is going to be a great relief valve for David - sort of a Taaj. Dublin will see a lot of David's passes off the double team. If Amayo was only at 60% last night, he is going to be a load when he gets to 80%.

Managed to attend game...Enjoyed all the informative posts this morning...Spent the first hour on the computer... Then went to the newspapers sport pages in anticipation...We had just beaten a very gifted team before one of the most enthusiastic student crowd I have seen for years at Hynes (Except for the A-- H--- chant). It was by far the best and better team games in the metro area...
Found a typical High School written type Iona game story in the local paper, but I searched the New York Post in vain...Not one word about our game, but a full page devoted to St.John's and Fordham's victories over New Jersey Tech. and New York Tech.....Both these teams were no more then a warm up terrible opponent...
I do not know if its Sid's job to bring our game stories to the NYC sport writers attention, but the process is neglectful and needs immediate attention...We will be one of the best teams in Metro area where at certain points the Bronx border is no more then a mile or two away, and should be celebrated as such...As the year goes on, IMO this will be more and more evident...
As to game observations.......Casimir certainly appears to be the real deal...He plays with supreme confidence, and to do so at such a career start can only lead to a wishful hope that we have one of those undersized players who disregards any size handicaps and will be one of that type that comes along once in a great while...For a 5-9 Freshman in his first game to take control in the last minute of a game that appeared sadly lost is a sign of future Iona greatness.....
Amayo showed that with a little more 'get rid of the rust' time will fit right into a strong bodied position that will be able to play and fill many team needs....
Our foul shooting was terrible and almost cost us a game...IMO it was a little hurried, and needs slower tempo and attention....
Williams continues to improve and impress.......Laury at times rushed set ups, but still his presence is one of the most important parts of the team.......English had not one of his better games, but even at that was 'Pretty good'.....
We have been and continue to be a 'Hot and Cold'' team...The first 8-9 minutes of the 2nd half was a thing of beauty...In that type of ''High Octane'' basketball we are at our best, but once our foot is taken off the gas, the engine becomes sluggish......
Now lets hit the sack early Monday night and wake up early Tuesday morning with a full tank of high octane gas.......Wofford played fairly well last night against a very good Stanford team....As that was a extremely high scoring game, expect ours to be the same...How about 83-75 Iona......

If the NY Post considers itself as prominent in the coverage of local college basketball and made no mention of out game last night, well that's an embarrassment. If they don't really care about covering College hoops then it's no surprise that they provided the coverage they did.

And for the life of me why weren't the St. John's and Fordham games against D-2 opponents exhibitions? Are they seriously that hard up for "wins?"

The team Fordham played is D2, and their fans are thrilled with their show of dominance against a weak D2 team. And this was not an exhibition; Fordham desperately needs wins and will apparently schedule D2 teams to get them. The real issue is why the Post had an article about that farce and ignored a game between Iona and another top 100 team.

Put it this way if I'm looking to educate myself on college basketball I'm not going to the Post If I want to read a story about Fordham's old gym, or Steve Lavin's Italian grandma, then I'll go to the Post.
