Rider easily beat visiting Canisius tonight. I don't get it, I have seen both and think Canisius is far better, but this is a wacky Maac. First instinct that Monmouth was the second best team is turning out to be accurate.
Joebird.......perhaps Rider holding Canisius to 16 points in 1st half had something to do with it...We gave up that much in the first 5 minutes...I have no desire to change Cluess style basketball, but some semblance of the concept of defense would make us downright dangerous.....

So New York sport writers darlings both lost which by my count is their combined 9th loss in last 12 games...Yet tomorrows stories will be about St. John' great play and Seton Hall's loss excuses...They will remain rated among the Nation top 30 or so teams... Iona overcoming a devastating key player injury has the best record in the metro area, but they will not be allowed to be rated better then their darlings...There has not been one Iona story other then a one or two line score posting, yet never a edition goes by without a feature story on the fortunes of the Johnies or the Hall...
We are a unwelcome intruder, and we must be prepared to endure its jealousies...

Just the way it is until we start making regular NCAA tournament noise.

Bebis missed a few makable threes, but you can see his game starting to evolve, as he gets more PT. Confidence makes a big difference, and that goes for all our bench or recent bench players. No one hit our lucky 16 number, but the "bench" came close, scoring 15.

A little thought before posting would allow more validity to your sometime hasty assumptions.....
My assumption is that if there were 17,000 fans there and it was 65-35 SJ's as Guy reported, then about 10k were rooting for SJ's. If that is the case its a simple illustration to show more people in the area care about SJ's basketball then Iona basketball. There is no news bias against us. The only bias the news media has is selling content.

ctbill, my guess is that there were about 4k that stayed for our game, but I might be wrong. Also, I'm guessing that many of the people who attended and cheered for SJU were not SJU fans. Just New Yorkers who were cheering for the underdog, and I wouldn't expect to get 10K SJU fans(65% of 15,000 fans) at their next Garden game (+fans of the opposition). I just think that people were there who want to be part of history.

EP, thank you. B/t/w, were you at MSG, yesterday? No, I had a Theater conflict. If we had been the first game, I would have gone.
