What was the Lawrence deal? Gamesmanship by Masiello heading into the tourney? I broached this in the chat room last evening (to the sound of crickets). Posted in another thread that it was disciplinary. If gamesmanship and he comes back as strong as he recently played against Marist, then it may be a genius move by Massielo. Doubt it was gamesmanship, Masiello wanted very badly to win last night. Lawrence is reportedly erratic and a handful.

I believe it was both disciplinary and gamesmanship. I thought it was odd the 3rd 6'10 guy they have only played about 13 mins. I see them going big in Albany to wear Iona down. Look how fresh IW legs looked. In contrast, Laury reminds me a lot of Glover at this time of the year...less explosiveness late in the season. This fact coupled with what I call AJ's dribbling slump makes Iona vulnerable. I find it odd how AJ often doesn't try to dribble out of a tough spot and seems to just hope to draw a foul in a stationary position. One of the most frustrating things I have ever seen. He has showed signs of this since the Draddy game last year and Massiello and other MAAC Coaches are fully aware. This is where Amayo comes into the forefront, and to a lesser extent Cas and Ibn against the half court trap. All three are better ball handlers than AJ. Not a knock against AJ, just a fact. Better to have AJ moving off the ball in the half court ready to stop and pop or for a quick dribble penetration for a hoop or dish off.

Is Bebis hurt? He has appeared to move gingerly the last few games and a DNP last night. His length helps on D. Someone mentioned that he's been nursing a sore back.

Iona record without IW 10-1. Record with him 14-6. Doesn't make sense.

[Iona record without IW 10-1. Record with him 14-6. Doesn't make sense.[/quote] Joebird.....It will make sense if you study the won and lost record and take into consideration our opponents, where and when games were played, our team improvement, and teams added inspiration with his loss.....We as a team have not been a ball of fire lately escaping many times from close defeats... Even the dread full loss to St.Pete will make sense if one takes into consideration it was the last game of the season and meant little, we were a tired team meeting a team that saw and took advantage of it, and were playing in the dungeon of their home...

That article certainly puts things in perspective. Definitely increases the already high level of respect I had for IW and Cluess.

great story, another reason why there should never be topics of speculation on players personal lives.

Man I love this kid. And how impressive is his girl? The video is even more moving than the article. I'm proud of these players, and of the program.

We can only implore the Lord to guide and protect these young men. There is so much more to Iona basketball than basketball.
