Just reported by Iona Coach Tim Cluess:
"We have decided to give a rather harsh punishment to A.J. English for his contact with a referee in the Saturday night game against St. Peters. Although A.J. knows that he was in the wrong, he must be disciplined. I am sorry to say that A.J. will be forced to read the MAAC Board Discussion Topics for the next 7 days. While I know this is a severe punishment, given the absurdity of that Board, we felt it was justified."

That's way too cruel and unusual punishment. LOL.
Looking forward to finally making the game on Friday night.

Didn't want him to quit the team

i hope he doesn't get suspended playing without him and iw would be very tough i can see him getting a game, especially since i remember people talking about how tough cluess is on his players and with his background he keeps the kids in check so well

It was pretty clear from the replay that it was Washington who got into AJ's face. There didn't appear to be any intent on knocking the referee down. As far as "brawls" go, this was one of the mildest I've seen. Still, very immature on both sides.

Pretty amazing how the end of game event blew up to being classified a "brawl". After watching the several videos available online it is clear that players on both teams did not handle themselves well. Pretty sad how many individuals/fans of other programs are relishing the negative publicity generated by the event. I feel the MAAC leaving the issue of discipline to Iona and St. Peters programs is appropriate. Hopefully, the MAAC will assign experienced officials to the game at St. Peters and the coaching staffs explain to the players that they are marked men and need to act/react appropriately. For the remainder of the MAAC schedule both programs will need to be very cognizant that these "new" reputations will follow them. I expect lessons have been learned the hard way.

Boosters aren't allowed to treat players to some fun, and the Catskills sure as hell aren't the place to find any . Just make him watch the next Siena-St. Peter's game. That's punishment right there.
