Well, 05's list points out the ridiculousness of the award. King Rice has won it twice and Fran McCaffrey only once (Yes, I know he's an asshole, but one of the best coaches to ever coach in this league). Tommy Dempsey won the award? One of the worst coaches in NCAA history. Had some of the best talent in the history of the league and couldn't win a tournament championship. Played a final with the best player in this league in the last 25 years and he barely touched the ball. So, obviously the best coach doesn't necessarily win this award.

Spot on. The COY doesn’t necessarily go to the best coach. How has Cluess only won one award? Seems ridiculous to me.
The problem is that Iona is always picked at the top because of the team talent. They don't recognize that the talent is there because of the coach therefore he doesn't get the proper accolades because we're suppose to win
Although it would be nice to win COY,I know TC would rather get another NCAA bid.He just did something never accomplished,he has either won a league title or tourney title every year,he might not get the recognition, but the admin knows by giving him more than 1 extension, and the fan base is aware as well,he will be a lifer here and will break many records before he’s done, will be thought of in legendary terms here years after his job is done.
If he's back, and healthy, Jahnathan Maxwell showed flashes that he can contribute next year. Of course, I'm not sure if he'll ever be able to play defense.
Nice moment in the 2nd half was the McGill dunk after his in bounds pass-right after timeout.
He's had a couple dunks this season but they were with nobody really near the rim. This one was much more eye-opening.
Agee's dunk of the rebound was awesome too.
Really was impressed with the out of bounds play after a timeout. These have not been typical of our teams the past few years and overall have been much more effective recently. (Ruland mastered diferent out of bounds plays.)
I had read a few weeks ago that there had not been a conference regular season champion with a losing record in 15 years. I guess we have broken that streak, but haven’t seen that mentioned since.

Does that include conference tournaments? Still a chance we don't have a losing record.

This was actually an audible called by Cluess when the defense lined up. McGill was standing right next to him on the inbounds pass and he whispered to him to do it. There was a slight odd delay waiting for TV to tell the officials to start that allowed it to come about.

Yeah, superstitions make no sense but I'm strange about them like using the same ball marker as long as I am playing golf well (which has been a while). In fact the last time I spoke with TC was at the last game we played at Loyola. We were chatting and I told him that I would never send him another email during the season again as I sent him one and we lost an important (perhaps a MAAC tourney) game. He thanked me.
The eldest son of the woman I have been seeing for the last 4 years went to Gonzaga. She's a huge fan and has seen games at The Kennel. I told her that what GU recently did to BYU could be considered a hate crime! They have a great program out there. She gets a bit annoyed at me when they play St. Mary's and I pull for SMU, because I love to hear the crowd chant "Let's Go Gaels!". She knows how much I love Iona.
Go Gaels!!!
Z, remember "the swearshirt" from years back?
Well, it's been replaced. I now have a maroon one that has an exceptional record--even this year, and even in games I don't attend.
I have a black one with a hideous record, so I rarely wear it now. Last time I wore it was our game at Fairfield--our only double digit Maac loss.
Following up on this for Z (and the rest of you who are bored).
With me traveling and not attending the MAAC Tournament, I indeed planned accordingly, to wear "the sweatshirt" for our games.
For Friday's game with SPC, I was mostly in the car, following on live stats and wearing the sweatshirt. Things generally were OK, and as I pulled into the hotel parking lot, Iona was building its late lead. By the time I had checked in and headed to our room, Iona was up comfortably very late.
We enter our hotel room and it's stifling hot. I mean, someone jacked that thing up and just shut the door. Despite the heat, my first instinct was to get my laptop out so I can watch the final couple minutes. As the laptop's firing up, I ditch the sweatshirt. We have a decent lead, very late. I'm watching as Turner single-handedly makes things interesting, and in pain I continue to see the lead shorten and the Iona free throws miss their mark. Now, here we are, Turner inbounding and getting it back and driving freely until Agee fouls him. I raise my arms and sandwich them around my head in disbelief, and then I realize--the sweatshirt is not on, it's just sitting on the bed next to me. I grab it just in time as Turner steps to the line. You know the rest.
On Sunday, the sweatshirt was worn as we drove home, live stats letting me know that the Gaels are demolishing Siena. Nice.
On Monday, I fly to Chicago for a meeting early Tuesday. I meet my team out for dinner that night at Gibson's Steakhouse (which is fantastic by the way)--and you guessed it, the sweatshirt is on. So, I'm a tad underdressed compared with the team, but I explain myself. They all look at me like I'm nuts, but I'm not sweating it. I'm back in my hotel room to watch the majority of the second half, so pretty much the start of us blowing them out of the water.
So, I know, the question is why don't I always wear it. You all know that won't work. I honestly don't remember if I wore it for the Duke game last year. For the Oregon game, it was balmy in Sacramento, so I had on only a t-shirt. And I don't remember what I wore the previous years when the sweatshirt has been a factor, but obviously you're getting into mid-March, so it's possible I ditched it for lighter attire as I did for Oregon. I DO know this sweatshirt is at least 9-0 in the MAAC Tournament, if not 12-0.
The forecast in Columbus on Friday is 43 degrees and windy. Sounds like sweatshirt weather to me.
The greatest poster in the history of the MAAC as determined by THREE separate polls.

When you get here, I'm welding the sweatshirt to your body.
