What’s Thiam’s story? That seems much more uncertain. Just can't imagine Thiam would have transferred without confidence he would get a waiver. That doesn't mean he will, only that he thinks he will. Sitting a season to play one season makes little sense for the player or Iona. No sense at all really.

So much potential!

That team you’re referencing was stacked, however we lacked size and once you got passed the first four players the rest of the team was mediocre.

Diagne is a great kid. Played and lived locally in HS. I think Cluess could make him into something. He can run the floor and has a great motor. What’s not to like?

With his previous connections to Steve DeMeo @ NW Florida St, SJU will probably be in play.

Sounds like he could be good, also sounds like he could be like a couple of the other bigs we've had in recent years that have not worked out. I think as a grad transfer he would probably have to be more of a finished product. No time for Cluess to make him into something.

Add me to the list on passing on Diagne. These last 2 scholarships have lots of value as far as adding one or two players to make this Iona team the clear team to beat. Right now I have Rider and Iona as the favorites. QPAC can also contend, but have more question marks than Iona and Rider. Siena has upgraded their roster, but I believe they are adding too many new kids and have more question marks than the true contenders, starting with their HC, who was rushed into the position after Christian walked on them.
As far as the last 2 scholarships, it appears Iona is recruiting a couple of players, both sit-out transfers and JUCO. The staff obviously feels these kids are worth waiting for to the point of walking away from Sidibe and Johnson. In my opinion Diagne's stats over the past 2 years just don't suggest he would have the impact that you really need from a grad transfer. The waiver for Thiam would be huge, but honestly rather play Nikolic and Risto over Diagne. Even if Iona is only able to get one more commit, rather see them hold it for a possible mid-year transfer.

I’m not so sure we were all that set on Johnson. We’ve never been listed as an official option. His HS coach just mentioned him visiting us 2 years ago and people assumed the interest was still mutual 2 years later. Diagne committed to an ACC school and then played for C-USA school. We can’t turn our nose up at that. His talent and athleticism would match Agee’s - his output could obviously differ, as his numbers haven’t shown he can do that. With minutes, I think he can.

If Mo is eligible this year, I like to see the staff go after a SF type graduate transfer. There are some very good ones out there. That would give us great versatility in how we play Crawford.
