In reading the off topic discussion threads one thing has become apparent to me. The posters here seem to mirror the public at large; two groups. One group thinks the Republicans and conservatives are all paragons of virtue and the Democrats and liberals are just the opposite. The others all think the converse about the Republicans and Democrats. Newsflash; it's all BS. Maybe ALL these people are garbage and that's how they end up with all the authority. Now if you look at what they actually do in office it's really a little shocking. For example, Obama with 15% food stamp cuts for the absolute destitute and food insecure families. His push to speed the pace of globalization with his pushing of the "Trans Pacific Partnership". Luckily for manual laborers in this country it did not pass because they would have been thrust into competition with countries where there is no concern for environmental and worker safety issues. Thrust into competition with countries where the average wage rate is less then $1.00/hr. It was Reagen who was criticized for not RAISING welfare payments, but it was Clinton who was somehow praised for pretty much eliminating welfare, thus admitting that the Republicans were right all along on the issue.
It was also Clinton who pushed through (s#%m of the earth G.W. Bush's) NAFTA treaty and seemed to take credit for it. He did this by bribing a few members of his party to vote with the Republicans in exchange for their constituents receiving relief from it. These were Democrat Presidents pursuing right wing policies. However, I don't think a Democrat President could have gotten away with what Nixon did when he pushed for, and achieved, international recognition of Communist China. The Communists in China had come to power by force in 1949, and so I don't think Johnson or Kennedy would have gotten away with that. But Nixon sure did, and Kissinger even received the Nobel Peace prize for it. What a joke! These people who bugged the offices of shrinks, and had people assassinated in connection with the leaking of the Pentagon papers, to extend the war and kill more Vietcong and U.S. servicemen, received the Nobel Peace Prize?
Which brings us to the Bush's. Most people really know very little about them. Low life. George H. W. Bush was actually referred to as wimpy, which is a little crazy considering the fact that he was the director of the CIA. Definitely not a wimp; he took no prisoners. His father Prescott Bush appears to have been a money launderer for fugitive Nazis. (As the war in Europe was winding down in 1942-43, he was acquiring controlling interests in Argentinian and Brazillian banking interests. Do the Math on that one.) Great Grandpa Bush was very close to the "robber barons" of the 19th century. He was pretty much in their inner circle. Among watchdog groups (who are extremely important for a free society to have) it was considered a major turning point for the U.S. intelligence community when a former CIA director became President. Ultimately that is why today we have the Patriot Act. That is why we have the Government throwing a dragnet over the entire country. Recording every cell phone call. Every land line call. Every text message. Every email. The Government can now, with the passage of the Patriot Act, hold a person without charge. . .INDEFINITELY!!! This is why we now have "secret law" adjudicated in "secret courts". Funny that I don't see any of this in the constitution.
But anytime the Patriot Act gets criticized people always say, . . . 9/11. . .9/11. . .9/11! OK THEN, 9/11 IS IMPORTANT! Well then is it really unreasonable to ask for proof that who they say perpetrated it, actually did?. Ari Fleisher said "we have absolute proof that Bin Laden is responsible, but for obvious reasons we can't reveal what that proof is right now, but we will in the not too distant future". Then a little more then a year later Colin Powell said that we will NOT be offering any proof that Bin Laden is responsible. And so they never did. And the FBI never had him on their most wanted list for 9/11 because they "do not have any concrete evidence that he was involved". That's strange that after all those people they were allowed to torture because of 9/11 they have no evidence.
Now there are many, many serious problems with Bush's conspiracy theory. (No it is not as dumb as "it was the ufo's, or "it was the martians" or "the planes were really holograms". But it still is a pretty ridiculous conspiracy theory in and of itself.) I have outlined just a few of these problems in other threads. So when I ask why it would in the governments own words "jeopardize public safety" to release, for example, the videos of the accused individual hijackers moving through the airport and boarding the airplanes on the morning of 9/11, I don't see that as an unreasonable or unimportant question. Do any of you? What is the possible explanation for this? Doesn't this just scream cover up loud and clear? Isn't the burden of proof on the accusers? The ones who say they have to employ torture on our behalf??? The citizens of this country? They are doing this on our behalf. This is not Japan pre Pearl Harbor. They lived in a totalitarian state, we do not. Yet we still firebombed Tokyo and nuked Hiroshima and Nagasaki, purposely killing countless civilians living under totalitarian rule including women and children. I want to at least see some evidence of this nutty conspiracy theory. Can't show them boarding the aircraft ? Why the hell not?
Now when I ask you guys this question, it is because I respect you. Otherwise why would I spend so much time on this board? And I don't think the reason why you have never answered one of these questions such as, "how could releasing the video evidence that the accused even boarded the plane, in their own words jeopardize public safety" is because you are unintelligent. But you know what the real reason nobody can answer it is? Well the reason is you can't answer it because. . .THERE IS NO ANSWER FOR IT! It is a stupid claim by the government. "We can't show the video proof that the accused actually got on the plane because it might jeopardize public safety" is what they say! How can you defend that? How can you explain that? It's impossible because it just does not make any sense. And that is why nobody can even attempt to address it. It is not because you are stupid. It's because. . .THERE IS NO ANSWER TO IT!
Maybe Iona grads are patriotic, but really, if you are a patriot and love your country, wouldn't you want the government in our country to do be doing the right things on our behalf? The government is only one part of this country. I'm patriotic and I don't want people to be tortured on my behalf, so I at least need a little bit of evidence. We have a lot of responsibility as citizens in a democracy. We do not live in a totalitarian state like the Japanese did in 1941. We perpetrated two wars in the Middle East that cost the lives of over million people. To my way of thinking that is an important issue. In the words of Lord Acton "Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely". The rule of law is important! But after 9/11 we just gave away some of the most important principles of our constitution to the deep state. Because after all we need them so much and to ask for this video evidence is stupid and crazy. Who cares about the U.S.constitution!
