On Friday night I was at an annual black tie dinner in D.C. One of my former law partners asked me why I kept looking at my phone. I was following the Gaels at Quinny. I was so happy to see that they won that I stayed up until 2:00am watching the replay when I got home. I was amazed by what I saw of this team.
Just like the rest of the board I was interested in seeing whether the Gaels could carry over their much improved play and win a Sunday afternoon game. They played even better today. Yeah, they bent a bit and let Fairfield get within 4. But the team battled back to a 9 and then a 15 point lead within minutes. I have been a Crawford fan for a long time. What I found interesting today was how the team increased a lead while E.J. was getting a well-deserved rest. E.J. was a machine today. IW is showing just how very good he is and Ross had a great day from behind the arc. In fact the entire team played well today.
I do not know what has happened but there is certainly new life in this team. I am very proud of the team and coaching staff. There is a long way to go, but I still think we will stay out of the PIG and we have as good a chance as anyone of winning the MAAC tourney. E.J. Crawford deserves to be on team that won the title in all 4 years he played. ala Rickey McGill.
It’s ok with me if the rest of the MAAC underestimates us. As long as our guys remember that we are the 4 time straight defending MAAC champions, we will be just fine.
