"I am young and healthy – even if I get infected, I won't get sick."
Being young and healthy decreases the odds of severe illness, but it's no guarantee. Almost 100% of those hospitalized and dying of COVID these days (of all ages) are unvaccinated. Those who are vaccinated are highly protected from getting sick. "Long COVID" (symptoms lasting more than 3 months) affect 10-20% of those infected, and can seriously impact quality of life. New MRI studies show distinct areas of long-term brain tissue loss after infection.
Study just came out of Cape Cod Mass, they analyzed all positive covid tests. Not the biggest sample size, but not small. 469 cases. Out of these 74% of the postives were from vaccinated people. 80% of those showed symptoms. 5 hospitalized 4 of them vaccinated. 0 deaths. Now does this one study prove/disprove anything? Not enough info imo. Couple of weeks ago The president and some news networks were using the phrase “ a pandemic of the unvaccinated “ This is clearly not true. The narrative is constantly changing (look at the mask mandates). I would love to hear data(not opinions)about number of deaths from covid in the past year vaccinated vs unvaccinated. Would also like to see the number of deaths from the vaccine.
You are not looking to be convinced about the vaccines; you seek to have your fear and ignorance validated. You want current information about Covid infection and hospitalization rates for different age groups, go to the CDC website and that of your state health department. You want misinformation? Watch Tucker Carlson and the rest of the talking heads on Fox, Newsmax, One America, Infowars, you name the propaganda outlet of your choice.
The vaccines are safe and the data demonstrates that. Covid has mutated into a more easily transmissible form and the data shows that. More than 95% of those currently hospitalized with Covid are not vaccinated, again as the data shows. More children are being hospitalized with Covid; the data shows this.
I wish this were as simple as a Darwinian process of natural selection, where the ignorant regrettably fail to protect themselves and suffer the consequences. But in this situation vaccine ignorance endangers us all, by the unvaccinated providing themselves as hosts for viral mutations that will sicken and possibly kill innocent people. It will also prolong the negative economic impacts of Covid.
Well stated! The idiot wants to continue to be an idiot. He won't take even the most basic step to protect himself, let alone others. Not only do these clowns refuse the vaccine, they refuse to wear a mask - all in the name of
Their motto: "Your body, my choice." No snakes in my house!
Calling me an idiot does not add anything to the conversation, as a matter of fact it says more about you.

Your analysis is completely wrong. You stated that “the vaccines are safe” Is the johnson and johnson vaccine safe? Is the AstraZeneca vaccine safe? “ i wish this were as simple as a Darwinian process as natural selection” You are wishing death on those who dont agree with you. That is vile and unfortunately no medication can cure that. I dont know what television show you learned that from, but it stems from fear, hatred for others, and ignorance. Viral mutations will happen no matter who is vaccinated. I am sure there are people out there that have chosen not to get the vaccine that hope that the vaccinated have horrible long term side affects. They are equally vile.
What is vile is the willingness to endanger the health and safety of others exhibited by those who chose not to vaccinate. I have no patience for this irresponsible and immoral behavior.

I believe your opinion that others are immoral and irresponsible is built on a false premise. If someone is refusing to get the vaccine in hopes of getting sick or spreading a virus, then that would be vile too. The vaccination status of someone else does not affect your vaccination. If the vaccination works then God bless. You are safe. If you are worrying about mutations, yes it will. No matter what. I hope your vaccination works on that too. Thank God your wish for the demise of the unvaccinated appears to be unfounded at this time. I believe if that were the case people would be lined up for the shot.

The guidance changes as the virus changes and the outlook for the country changes. This is logical. The fact that billions of doses have been administered and the results reaffirm the clinical trials that supported the emergency approval by the FDA doesn't factor into your analysis? BTW those were some of the most intense and scrutinized clinical trials probably in the history of the FDA. If you want to see "the number of deaths [caused] by the vaccine," I'm sure you can find a legitimate source that would have that number, if there were any. Same with the data of deaths to vaccinated v. un-vaccinated people since Jan 1. I have to think there is an unbiased, non-political source for this information you can find.

I agree with that, but i dont believe that closes the the door and conversation. I look at the clinical trials as a good first step. I believe there is more data long/short term to come. As far as deaths caused by the vaccine, i have seen 900 to 45,000. Smh i dont believe it could be as high as 45k, but i would like to hear the real number from a reputable source.

On the slim to no chance that you do have an interest other than argumentative, here is a real source. Not Fox, Not OAN, Not Newsmax.
The article locked me out and asked for registration when i tried to go back in, my initial look at, correct me if i'm wrong, was a study in Kentucky in May/june 2021. It found that 67% to 33% the positive cases of covid were from the unvaccinated. That is a significant amount, but did that take into account the % of people in the state that are vaccinated versus unvaccinated? Another point the article made was that it was prior to the Delta variant which now, according to the latest news i heard makes up 90% of new infections. I believe the article also differentiated between unvaccinated people that had previously recovered vs those that never contracted the virus. I appreciate the link and would lead me to believe the Vaccinations were more successful in preventing the original strains of the virus. I included a link to a newer federal study

There is only 1 guy on this board that i dont converse with. As you accuse me of being argumentative, look at your childish name calling in the previous post. I have no interest in discussing ANYTHING with you ,or anyone, who sits behind his keyboard, and types nonsense like that. Make that 2 guys.

Here's what's happening. You are not looking for data. You are looking for data that backs up you decision not to get the vaccine. The hospitals in Mississippi and elsewhere are NOT filling up with patients who have had adverse reactions to the vaccine. They are Covid patients, virtually all unvaccinated. You either misunderstand or are deliberately mis-stating the facts of the Cape Cod study. The Cape Cod study's main conclusion is that with the Delta variant it looks like vaccinated people carry nearly as much of the virus as the unvaccinated. Meaning that we probably need vaccinated people to mask up in indoor public settings. They are NOT getting seriously ill or dying.

Disagree. In response to the accusation that i am looking for data that backs up my decision. I respond that you are only looking for data that backs your decision. In regards to mississippi hospitalizations, i never said they were full of patients with adverse reactions to the vaccine. Thats coming from you. In regards to the Cape Cod study , what i stated are facts. U might like them or dislike them, but i did not misstate anything. 74% of the infected were vaccinated, 80% of the hospitalized (4/5) Were vaccinated, Zero deaths. If those are NOT the facts correct me.
To be fair, we all look for numbers/facts to support our opinions for every facet of life, don't we? And yes, you pretty much can find data to make any story you want, even in science. It's sorta what I do for a living. Make any scientific point to me, and I can find you at least some data to support that point--AND counter it, if you prefer.
My take on this is that yeah, back in March/April, it was perfectly fair to question the vaccine data, because it was so limited. And while certainly you can still question some of the data, there's now a whole lot out there supporting their use. Just this week we have seen the American Academy of Pediatrics recommend the vaccines in kids, and we now see the CDC recommending vaccine use in pregnant women. These groups don't make recommendations on a whim, and no, they are not pressured by government or big pharma. The benefits just outweigh the risks at this point for most people (and I repeat, MOST people). No drug or vaccine is perfect. There are still people who react to vaccines that have been on the market forever.
At least Hat is making his point based mostly on his interpretation of the data, rather than saying the government is making everyone get vaccinated, big pharma is twisting stuff to make a profit, etc, etc. People who have scientific reasons for not wanting the vaccine are at least acceptable to me. I have a cousin who is around 23 or so who doesn't want the vaccine because she's afraid of a potential side effect that may prevent her from having kids someday. While I would now say that these concerns are unwarranted, at least it's a reason and a legit one as hey, if 999 women who get vaccinated have no problem getting pregnant and producing healthy children you don't want to be the one that does. I can at least understand that. It's those that think they're being controlled and turn this into a political thing that I have a problem with.
Did you guys see the Iona baseball player that said he's not going to play any more after the MAAC mandate came out, saying he shouldn't be forced to take a vaccine just to play baseball? Um...I'm pretty sure you can't even GO away to a college until you've had a physical and have records that you've received all your vaccinations, etc. Not 100% certain on that but I'm pretty sure I had to supply all that stuff when my son was getting ready to head to college early for football. And yes, people can have reactions to and get sick from the meningitis vaccines that all teens are recommended to get.
Also, want to just go back to my removal of 88. He was a tool the moment he got on the board, it wasn't just his covid stuff. I have no need to babysit here. People can disagree without being assholes. It's the biggest issue with message boards and social media--people don't know how to disagree, and they don't know how to handle it when they are wrong. I don't mind the debate you guys are having at all, though.
The greatest poster in the history of the MAAC as determined by THREE separate polls.

Agree with 99% of that. One point i would question. When i went to iona, i had to have all my vaccinations up to date, example measles mumps rubella etc. but the school did not, nor should they enforce a brand new vaccination more akin to the flu shot. If the maac demands vaccinations i would hope and pray the young man that declined does not lose his scholarship (if he was on scholarship). In regards to 88 i honestly never remember his postings, this forum wouldnt exist without your decisions, so i go with you.
