Nah I agree with Joe. If Pitino goes to St. John’s (which he is) I hate his guts. Mostly because of everything he said when he was first hired and because St. John’s fans on twitter are some of the most annoying, obnoxious people I’ve ever encountered. I tend to agree, however we should give Pitino the benefit of the doubt in that we don’t know what has gone on behind the scenes. Something could have fallen apart with his extension talks or his buyout terms or a host of other issues that led him to change his position on retiring at Iona. There are a lot of dynamics and ego at play here, although I agree on the surface it would be a pretty low class move to bolt Iona after three seasons. |

What’s the point of a 5 year contract when only one party is required to honor it? Something must have changed CJB. He came in with a 5-year contract and a $10 million buyout and would be leaving after 3 years and a $0 buyout. |

Did it occur to a few of you that Iona may have initiated this process? I can come up with a couple of reasons for doing this. Iona recently built a new business school. They acquired a new campus and is the middle of a health sciences start-up. Now may not be the time for us to playing in Las Vegas at 2 in the morning, or flying to Hawaii, etc. We are paying coach $1million, but we are not prepared at this time to go to $2 million.
Pulling on a thread introduced by ctbill, hawaiibill, and his other brothers, Iona and Coach have mutual ambitions but the timing for each may not be in synch. Eliminating the buyout may be a key indicator of a mutual agreement to tamp down mutual ambitions at this time.

FWIW:
Listened to a twitter spaces last night about coaching carousel season. Obviously it turned into the whole Georgetown, SJU and Providence circus.
Braziller was actually listening and when the host noticed, asked him to speak.
Braziller said in his opinion it's either SJU and Iona, and he felt Pitino would choose SJU, but it's not a done deal and SJU in the past has been known to blow things up. Said he was told Pitino was meeting with Shanley on the SJU campus by tomorrow, but most likely today. If a deal is finalized both sides want it done quickly. SJU hopes to hold a presser at MSG by midweek if he takes the job.
As far as Repole. He said once in awhile they talk, and did so right before the Big East tournament. Interesting he said there isn't any type of relationship between Repole and Shanley. What's interesting is right before Big East tournament SJU still wasn't locked in on RP.
Kind of makes you wonder after Braziller spoke to Repole, if he contacted SJU telling them Repole would bring back Big $$ if SJU hires RP. Timing is very suspicious..lol

What’s the point of a 5 year contract when only one party is required to honor it? That's where the buyout at least gives a program some protection. Pitino leaves I hope the media asks Carey why would he waive whatever was left on the buyout before this season. I get it wasn't Carey at the time, but it's a bad look for Iona that they didn't waive the buyout two times for Cluess, but did it for this snake. |

So he goes to negotiate at St John's and comes back, you guys are ok with that? He shows he used us again. Shows no loyalty to the kids on HIS team here.
The man lies about everything, we made a deal with the devil, he bashes the school all the time with the BS how he changed the culture on and off the court including in the classroom, so Iona had kids that were bad students the nation believes?
We don't do buy games which is how we supported the program, we don't have a schedule for next year because he must hand pick each opponent.
It's ok how he is holding the program hostage, I remember when Massiello took another job and came back how everyone called him names, it's the same thing here, he essentially has left as long as st chicken meets his demands. How would you feel if you were a player?

How would you feel if you were a player? 70, totally understand your perspective and agree with the comments about taking credit for things that were already in place when Cluess was here. Regarding listening to SJU offer, as much as it sickens me to think about Pitino roaming the sidelines for our inferior local rival, it would not be uncommon for a coach to listen to other opportunities and choose to stay at his current job. Also, why does he no longer have a buyout? Shows me something went on behind the scenes that we are not aware of. |

As far as being OK with him deciding to stay at Iona, to be fair Cluess wanted Hofstra and SJU jobs. Correct? Don't remember any hard feelings fron the fan base. As far as the players? Why wouldn't they want to run it back next season? Might see a couple transfer even if he does come back, but it won't be because he flirted with SJU |

Hopefully Iona is being proactive, and already making contact with coaches they would be interested in talking with.
The transfer portal has been very active for a week. Every MAAC program has been active contacting recruits.
Based off of conversations and Twitter research, Iona recruiting is at a complete standstill. Johns and Brown are not even contacting any recruits. If Pitino does leave, Iona can't waste time
