For me: ROI after all the hoopla and $$$ Two first round NCAA losses ( no difference) One first round MAAC loss ( first time since his boy Willard did it 3x. Add in Abatemarco “resigning “ followed by Masiello hiring. So he has made the program worse not better and taken credit for building our program

Let’s not get crazy. Maybe we are not where we expected to be at this point in the RP era and we are clearly all a bit sour over the SJU speculation, but there is no way we can say our program is worse off with RP. That is a ridiculous statement. I believe the guy has a better winning percentage in a three year period than any coach in Iona history, he has beaten Top 10 teams, he has gotten us a 13 seed, he has recruited great talent and even better kids, he has sold out the HAC and created a better in-game atmosphere than we have had in decades. We should not be building statues for him any time soon, but we also should not be saying he has made the program worse.

Maybe it was Iona telling him it is time for him to get out and removing the buy out is the impetus he needs. He was very public about the move to A10 and the fight with Ensor about the playoff structure. I found it odd that Carey was silent about the school’s position. Pitino overstepped his bounds as a basketball coach. Too outspoken. Then as noted previously there were comments about changing the schools’s winning culture and the academics of the team. I also thought that the public criticism of the front court vs UCONN was uncalled for. The injuries over and over and over. I totally appreciate what he did in terms of recruiting, scheduling and improvements to Hynes. The player’s love him too. I just think that he needed to take a chill pill about a number of issues that possibly pissed off Carey and the conservative Board of Directors. If there's any truth to this... I would be absolutely embarrassed how soft Iona's leadership is...

We don’t know the inner workings on this, and likely will never know. Pitino may have become unbearable to deal with, something else may have happened, or multiple factors came into play. The long term success of Iona, all of Iona, is the most important consideration. Who knows what happened.

They would consistently skip class and had poor GPA’s under Cluess.

Does anyone know the actual terms of the buyout agreement or are we discussing rumors?

Does anyone know the actual terms of the buyout agreement or are we discussing rumors? $10 million buyout with a sliding scale that decreased depending on the year the buyout was exercised. I am not sure on the exact number, but believe by year five the buyout was in the $1-2M range.

Braziller is really working overtime for St John’s. I truly wonder if he’s getting something on the side from them. What he is getting is increased access.

Anderson would be a great hire. IF he would bail on FDU, we would want him to do the exact thing we don't want Pitino to do. I know the difference because of the circumstances, but still.
This quote does sound similar. Kimani Young 1st call. Staff of John's, Brown and Stanley. Chance to retain nice core

The program is in good shape and positioned well for continued success.

The problem is people get crazy and take extreme positions on this stuff. If we are being objective then we would see RP has done many great things for our program and he has also fallen short of expectations in some ways. Both of those things can be true at the same time.

You want me to pull up transcripts? No, but my buddy was the manager during Cluess four straight run and he had to check if they made class or not and report back. Said kids consistently skipped. Isaiah Washington also had a 0.9 GPA at one point when he was here.
