Questions for 86 and sharkey (or anyone else). In the scouting report you usually show about four recruiting rating services. Some have a star rating and some don't. My questions: 1. Do you think the ratings are valid? (Hopefully the answer isn't, some are) 2. Do you consider one service better for MM recruits? None of them are really worth much IMO. More telling is what schools are recruiting the players. 100% accurate.

Ratings are only as good as the person reviewing the player and I believe that they need to see a player at a few tournaments to really figure out what a kid is able to do and what their potential really is. If a player has multiple good ratings accompanied by some good offers, I think you are pursuing a very good player. Some great players may not have had much time in front of the services as their team sucks or the player has other sports commitments if they are a multi-sport athlete. Some players are way overrated due to the services juicing their ratings because the kid looks good playing on a team full of superstars... They could could average 14 pts and grab 9 boards playing AAU with Bronnie James but when they get to college and are playing against great talent or they are not surrounded by players who the other team is defending against, they end up being 4 pt and 2 rebound players. Basically there are a lot of factors. While 247 and Rivals are the standard, I would put more emphasis on their offers. If the player has only one big offer, that could also be a "favor" for their AAU coach or high school coach but the player will never end up playing for that program. Or in many cases a kid that is a ★★★ and has an offer from FSU and Davidson could be a "fall back" recruit and maybe the the 25th player in the recruiting depth chart for those schools. If a kid has some good high major offers and a lot of good mid major offers, I tend to look at that player as a higher level recruit. If a kid had a Maryland offer from 3 years ago and Bryant is their best mid major offer, I think the kid is at best a low to mid major prospect. Though Jared is a great recruiter he uses the shotgun approach and offers everyone. For me, I tend to look at certain mid major offers as a good sign over the quality of a recruit... schools like Hofstra, Bradley, Charleston, Dayton, St. Mary's, Vermont, Princeton, VCU, Wichita State. IMHO, Tobin's approach is to find players for his system, just taller and more athletic than he has traditionally been able to land at STAC or FDU. There is a pattern in all of these players he has offered... very good shooters, unselfish, very tough, tough defenders, smart with high hoops IQ. I think we will be very happy with the product we are going to see playing for us over the next few years. Trust in the staff... I think they are doing an amazing job.

86, thanks. I think it's fair to say that, "Now I know the rest of the story".

Just a note to pay attention to the wording when folks share recruiting info. Most of this thread consists of people we've actually offered, but the last couple added just says we've shown interest in them--no report of actually offering.

Do D-1 schools recruit Prom Queens? It depends on what they are self identifying as on the day we make the official offer.

Joshua DeCady -6'8" SF/PF Out of Queens (NY). Played for Molloy but transferred to Kimball Union Academy (NH). Last season earned All NEPSAC Honorable Mention in Class AA. Plays AAU for Crown Basketball. Finishes through contact, blocks shots and has a college ready body. Has a decent handle for a big. Ratings:Rivals: N/R 247: N/R ESPN: N/R ON3: NR Offers: Maine, Merrimack, Bryant, UMBC, New Hampshire, Manhattan, St Bonaventure, Quinnipiac, George Mason, Hofstra, . Interest: Brown, Bucknell, Dartmouth, Mt St. Mary’s, BU, Air Force, Niagara, Vermont, Marist, Loyola. Scouting Report:"Joshua Decady (Kimball Union ’24) was a man amongst boys in Pittsburgh dunking everything and blocking a ton of shots. He took over the gym at times, his motor was better than everyone’s there and his rebounding instincts are off the charts. Decady was at Molloy before making the move to prep which has really helped take his development to the next level. If his strong offseason continues, he could easily be a household name in the ‘24 class over the next few months." - Brian Reichert- Crown Basketball wins Pitt Jam Fest - NYCHOOPS.NET - 4/24/2023 "Following a successful weekend, Decady received his second D1 offer from UMBC. The 6’8 man-child was a force to be reckoned with, dunking everything around the rim. He also showed some ability to take his defender to the perimeter and drive by with a decent ability to handle the ball for his size. He looked like another great MM big option on the East Coast who is just scratching the surface of where he will be." - Bryan Weber - Top Performers: Hoop Group Pitt Jam Fest - Hoop Herald - Apr 24, 2023 "Josh Decady recently popped onto my radar at the NEPSAC Showcase as an underrated prospect with a strong motor & budding two-way production. Physical, tough athlete who is a bouncy & quick finisher on the low-block. Powerful rebounder who tends to be a notable putback threat on the offensive glass. Assertive rim protector who can keep opponents out of the paint & block shots from time to time. Expect his recruitment to expand over the next year while playing for Kimball Union Academy " - TONY MCNIFF - 2024 MADE Recruiting Report: Part Two - MADEHOOPS - JUNE 24, 2023 https://www.tiktok.com/@thehoopgroup/video/7219350713300847918https://www.tiktok.com/@rarefootagesports/video/7217601723894926635
