One good thing about the Gaels is that they compete and never give up. The lack of wins are disappointing but as a team there is no quit. Lost this one by two possessions which wasn’t over until the last minute pf the game. Same can be said about Marist, C of C, Long Beach State games. 4 of our 6 losses within 2 possessions. While many criticisms noted in this thread are true and some arguably true, this team continues to fight the good fight. I think that's what's frutrating fans at this point--so close! I have attended 8 of the 9 games played thus far. In almost every case, there was a delayed but enthusiastic comeback effort. They really need to begin playing with a lead late in the game--better for their psyche (and ours).

They should learn to be ready to start a game instead of waiting until the last two minutes of every game to try to dig themselves out of a hole. Fight the good fight should also pertain to being prepared and fundamentals… making free throws, no careless turnovers, not fouling 90 feet from your basket etc.

Tobin is building a foundation after we were decimated by the last guy. Guess what, we may not win the MAAC this year. If so, we'll all survive and so will the Program. Next year we won't have 13 new players and a new coaching staff who haven't ever worked together before.
As for the players, I get the sense some are pressing, thinking too much. Learn the system, have fun and play. R-E-L-A-X.

Tobin did say they had a terrible week at practice.. Why should we be surprised that they started out flat?

Tretout was a no show tonight Wish he was a no show, we would have been better off. That was one of the worst games I ever saw an Iona starting guard play at home. And he had one of the best back at the opener, what the hell happened? Team is offensively challenged.,Played good d tonight. Will be competitive in the Maac but need Shema back and have to improve a good amount offensively to even win this league. it can happen, but we have to make big improvements on offense. If any players read this board, keep shooting. Rough nights are gonna happen. Hold your head up if you have a rough night shooting the ball. There are lots of other ways to contribute and effect the game in those circumstances.

This pretty much sums up my thoughts on this season. While I always want to see the Gaels win, TA has taken over a team that has 12 players who were not here last season and 13 players who have never played together. I have tried to imagine what it was like over the summer when we could not even put a team on the basketball court. Os must have been mighty lonely after our last coach left and the entire team followed - by either graduation or transfer.
So, I have no expectations of this team. Clearly there is a lot of talent but it takes time for a team to really mesh together. I am convinced that TA is the man who can get this done. I am so very happy and grateful that he is our head coach. I will not be surprised if the team wins the MAAC Tourney and TA works his magic again and gets a 16 play-in seed to beat a 1 seed. I also will not be surprised if we lose our first game in the MAAC Tourney. But I will cheer these guys on because they never give up and I know that they are trying. As H-bill said, maybe they are trying too hard. That just puts added pressure on them.
Keep competing Gaels; play up to your potential; and enjoy the experience.
Go Gaels!!!

coach al do you know fouroar? Perhaps he knew him four oar and seven years ago. You're too young for that kind of pun.
