Optics not good here. Hard to place the blame entirely on NIL and the portal when 6 of the 7 p;ayers recruitrd by the staff leave within 24 hours. This iincludes players recruited by the staff for FDU. So what should we do?

These coaches are navigating through uncharted waters. It not limited to Iona, it’s everywhere. This is the mess that’s been created.

There must be more to it than promises from recruiters of greener pastures. We’ll never know for sure but I would suspect the mass departure is a combination of player and coaching issues.

If you believe in a coach and respect him, you don't bail on him. The whole team left.. It's on him. Something is terribly wrong with the program he is running. Unless Tobin is cleaning house which I doubt

The more I think about it, 12 grad transfers is not a bad idea. A boatload of one year guys, lather rinse and repeat each year. School might go broke paying for senior night but so be it.
This environment sucks.
We would’ve never kept AJ in these times.

Not sure what the answer is to this mess, however not every mid-major is losing 8 of the ten players they were expecting back. I went to many, many games this season and this team didn't seem to be getting along as "team", and that was just one issue fans saw. Yes, we are in a new era of college sports, the NIL era where these players are paid professionals. However, every mid-major is facing the same challenges and those that figure out how to recruit and retain the right players, will excel and those who run off almost their entire team each year will not succeed. Go Gaels!

These coaches are navigating through uncharted waters. It not limited to Iona, it’s everywhere. This is the mess that’s been created. I see a difference here between “blame” and “responsibility”. If you are in charge you are responsible for what happens under your watch, absent an act of God or natural disaster. Tobin recruited these guys, so if we have a collective recruiting failure, and it could certainly be viewed that way, that’s on Tobin. I still don’t believe that Tobin is an ogre that is driving these kids out, and if they are leaving because they don’t like the amount of PT they got or what they were told in practice, to me that suggests we had a very soft group. I did not see any real mental toughness on display during games, with the exception of Os and Brown, and very little in the way of basketball IQ, with the exception of Os, Brown, and and at times Aranguren (he made a bunch of frosh mistakes but he was one of the few players to grasp the fact that if you cut to the hoop without the ball, or saw someone doing so, that was a scoring opportunity). Lost season and a complete redo now. Hope we get players who are a lot tougher mentally, understand the game better, and can hit free throws. So to me the responsibility is on Tobin. Blame TBD.
