Am I correct that NIL gets paid immediately to a player in Year 1 and can just leave for another program in Year 2? When does a player collect his NIL dough? I think there should be better rules that a player has to stay with a program for multiple years (at least two years) and gets paid after at least two years or prorate it. Also, does anyone know if Greg Gordon collected his NIL even though he left the team? Players are paid as they complete certain tasks/requirements. It is NOT pay to play. Players get paid in installments as described. Gordon didn't complete his last requirement and as such didn't get his last installment.

Regarding NILs in general, not Iona related, what I have trouble understanding is:
Who are the donors of the NIL money. . .alumni, sneaker companies or others?
If the player has to pay income taxes for the NIL money he receives. . .why should the NIL donor get a charitable tax deduction for the NIL money he gives?
To me it seems like a simple business transaction. . even if it is funneled through a college controlled entity.

NIL donations from us are not tax deductible, unlike donations to Iona Athletics in general.

According to ESPN, the first lawsuit involving NIL has been filed by a former U of Florida football player. 86 and HB might want to check it out.

This will benefit a few thousand athletes and will keep hundreds of thousands from the benefit of a free education. Believe this is the end for small schools.

They wanted to make basketball like football. Even stating a run by a so so major is the same as a mid major. We have a year or two left of the NCAA tournament

Schools can pay 20 million starting next year 1970, is that $20M total, for all sports? So, for instance, if a school spends $19M on their FB team, that would leave just one million for the rest pf the athletes. Or, are you talking up to $20M per sport?

Can walkons be given NIL money? I mean, they COULD, but why would you? It looks like Iona now has their full roster, even if Bundy hasn't been announced. But for some reason a player they had been after and had committed elsewhere changes his mind and says he wants to come to Iona. TA says we're out of scholarships, but we can make it up in NIL money. Naturally, this is hypothetical, but it would be a way for schools to get around the 13 scholarship limit. Money wise, it would be easier for the big schools with lots of money at their disposal. Or am I missing something?
