Updated roster and depth chart as of today: Starting Five: Casimir English Amayo Williams Laury Bench: Sledge (PG) Bebis (SG) Ellis (SG) Dublin (SF) Young (SF) Hines (PF) Robinson (C) Sledge has to be our starting PG. Nothing against Casimir, but experience at that position trumps everything - a freshman PG scares me.

I would expect the initial starting lineup to be: English Amayo Williams Hinds/Dublin Laury But I would expect 05's prediction to be the starting lineup by MAAC play.

From what I've seen, 86's lineup will be our starting lineup, unless Amayo has medical issues. If that were the case, then I would expect Casimir to start at PG and AJ move to OG.

[I would normally agree but Casimir can shoot the three and Cluess loves that. Again, not to diminish his ability, but doing that at the D1 level is a horse of a very different color. I would think he'll need to prove himself at this level before moving him ahead of Sledge. Let's also remember that Sledge is a pretty damn good player,

Looking at the 2 lineups just posted this is why I feel Hines may be the x factor for Iona this year. Assuming Amayo is healthy the top 4 starters are set. Hines starting would add needed length in the starting 5 as well as another solid perimeter player. as we have seen the last couple years teams cant guard 4 legit 3 point shooters and also have to deal with DL. TC can pick between Casimir (offense) or Sledge (defense) for the backup PG minutes game to game depending on what is needed that night. Don't know much about Dublin except from his stats and a little video, but I think I would prefer him coming off the bench as an high energy guy. Young, Ellis and Bebis are truly unknowns to me and have no idea what to expect from them. I would hope Ellis finally makes the jump and contributes with his perimeter game. not expecting much out of Robinson yet until he is fully healthy. Lets see if TC and Grasso can get a JUCO big that can help on the boards for the '14 season.
This could be TC'S most challenging coaching year at Iona. Despite having the best core 4 in the MAAC he has a lot of question marks for the pieces to place around them and their roles. After all of the success TC and staff have had so far I have faith that we are looking at another big season and dancing again in March.

I would think he'll need to prove himself at this level before moving him ahead of Sledge. Let's also remember that Sledge is a pretty damn good player, I love Sledge... I just think he has confidence issues. I think he would have been better served sitting out his first year instead of getting the waiver. I also think that Sledge's shot showed signs of improvement but he did not pull the trigger enough last season. With that said, caisimir will have to adjust, especially to Cluess offense, but last year he was going toe to toe with top level guards and doing exceedingly well. He went head to head with Devonte' Graham (Kansas), Kevin Zabo (San Diego State) and Jared Terrell (Rhode Island Top 100 recruit) just to name a few. I would rather Caisimir is given time to adjust but I think his outside shooting ability will be tough for Cluess to keep on the bench.

Lets also remember that Sledge is a pretty damn good player...Quote CJB There is no doubt in my opinion that Sledge is a pretty good player, but not for Iona...Entering his senior year he has contributed little and research will show that The Gails have lost scoring ground while he is playing... I admire but do not understand the loyalty shown by his fans that rises far above his contributions...That type of unrealistic loyalty does not tend to lead to success but to stagnation... If I had my wish it would be that Sledge has a banner year...I would gladly suffer the torment of those that will lament, but I have little hope for that time period transformation in his playing style...

My guess that Casimir would start at PG assumes two things: 1. Amayo is hurt and cannot be the starting OG. Thus AJ moves to OG, with Casimir the starting PG. 2. Second assumption is that Sledge isn't on the roster. Just a feeling.
That being said I'm fairly confident that Amayo plays and AJ is the STARTING PG.

I can see Sledge hitting 3's this year as Dwight did his snr. year during Cluess first year. He had shown little ability to hit 3's until his final year and then he could. Sledge hit a few last year that showed if he works on his shot and gets confidence he can hit 3's at a decent percentage. If he does that he will play and open things up for everyone. Keep in mind Sledge has very rare leaping ability and speed that makes him have huge upside should he be able to hit 3's. But he will need to do that to be the starting point guard.

From time to time particularly when introduced to a boarder at a practice session they will after a while ask me who helps assisting with my postings...The postings are done with one finger on my left hand...Most times they are written while alone with only my aide in our den...The words both those agitating and those excepted are mine alone of which I take full responsibility... I have worked hard to once again participate in this forum...It has rewarded me by helping to fill a large void with your help in a life that the handicaps have created...

Amayo was slated to get the ok to practice Friday.
Saw a practice 2 weeks ago. Not much different to report than others.
You will love Casimir (sp). Coaches clearly do. Robinson participated and had some of the moments we saw early on last year that gave us some hope for him. (Also had some of the others.) Young looks rusty offensively after a year off. Seem to recall that he was touted as a defensive stopper. Saw some of that. AJ will be a killer in the MAAC this year. Looks stronger. IW will be even better. Caused complete chaos. Shot was unbelievable. DLIII looks as fit as I have seen him. Was going up against Glover and held his own, (Echo others here--would love to have Glover back. You forget how good he was./is.) Glover working camp and just about recovered from Achilles heel injury. Also, will likely complete graduation requirements which will really boost APR. Dublin will contribute off the boards--very strong Greek kids paperwork in process--visas, grades, etc. Hinds/Ellis--did not see much Amayo--on sidelines working hard the entire time. Looked very strong
Overall impression--team consists of players who appear stronger/wider than wiry types we've had.
