The Tampa Tribune and other sources are saying that South Florida has rescinded their offer to Manhattan head coach Steve Masiello. Apparently the search firm of Eastman & Beaudine came across something while doing their background check. Masiello had agreed to the deal, leaving only financial details to be worked out, according to the Tribune. It is unclear if he will be returning to Manhattan at this point. We'll keep you updated as we hear more...

These are the last days but do I seem phased? Showed up at the last supper in some brand new jays.

Wasn't he named as being involved in some sleazy white-collar scam during his years in Kentucky?
I seem to recall someone bringing it up when Manhattan hired him.
Anyone recall something like this or am I hallucinating?

Masiello has a lot of skeletons in his closet. Some of it well documented, some of it well hidden. The fact that they discovered this (whatever *this* is) at the final stages and after it was already confirmed by media sources is pretty embarrassing. What's lost in all of this is the questionable practices by the media. Seems like everyone was racing to Twitter to outscoop everyone else and forgot that the deal wasn't confirmed yet. Bad job out of the press if you ask me, and that includes Rothstein, Zags and the rest of them. CYA note to all of them for the future...don't say it's confirmed unless it's confirmed.

I feel bad for Masiello. Seems like someone who didn't get the USF job, probably leaked the info in order to discredit him. I see the firm that was investigating his background, has a Beaudine as a partner. I remember something about a Mark (??) Beaudine from the movie, The Two Jakes. You can't trust those Beaudines. Anyone else remember the movie? It was a sequel to Chinatown, with movie great Jack Nicholson in both.

greg, you got me, I don't. Was he the guy in Beverly Hillbillies? And what does Steve Masiello and myself have in common? Answer: Neither of us have a degree from the University of Kentucky.

All I have to say is thank god we chose Cluess over Masiello after Willard left. Had it not been for that decision it would be us, and not Manhattan, who would be at the center of all this, coachless, embarrassed, and with egg on our face for not doing the proper level of due diligence before hiring someone.
