College basketball and the NCAA have become a mirror of the ''GOOD OLD BOY'' system down in Washington D.C...They are rampant with skeletons in their closets...For fear of their own being exposed, silence rules.... There is little doubt that Massielo lied, Manhattan and Kentucky both knew that he did not have a Kentucky Diploma, it was a transgression widely known, but not discussed, and the NYC Press are either the least qualified or were complicit in a cover up... The ''Give them another chance'' without reparation has led to the breakdown of moral respect which without we are doomed... I can already hear the echo's of ''There goes the Oldtimer'' again...

If Massiello is allowed to return he should be required to hold press conference to own and discuss the degree issue. Public accountability is key. Additionally his contract should be structured with $2 million buyout. Manhattan Administration should do press conference and not issue press releases to show a public face.

OT, have to disagree with you about the NYC Press. No reason that they should have known whether or not SM had a college degree. And I for one never even considered that possibility even when the news of USF backing out of the deal, so it's hard for me to throw stones.

As I suspected, you are one of the worlds good guys that walk the sunny side of the street...I unfortunately because of where life took me has become a cynic that walks the shady side..... Kentucky certainly knew Massielo did not graduate from their school.. Manhattan certainly had a reputable investigative firm who unless completely incompetent, discovered that information which a simple phone call would have divulged ... For a reporter(s) that covered Manhattan and NYCity basketball not to follow up a story that was rumored for quite some time reeks with incompetency or complicity... I it walks like a duck, and it quacks like a duck, it is a duck.

OT, I only disagree with you about the NYC Press. Today's press is almost nonexistent, especially on the sport's side, and there is no one to run out grounders (fact check) for a story. Where I do agree with you is that the Kentucky Athletic Dept. DID KNOW. Don't they have to send in reports to the NCAA for their Graduation Rate Report? Or does that only cover scholarship players? But playing the devil's advocate, they wouldn't know whether or not Manhattan required their HC to have a Bachelor's degree. As a retired detective, you want every natural death to be a possible homicide, resulting in a lot of OT (as in overtime). (Smiley Face)
P.S. Maybe someone should check with the NCAA and see if UK counted SM as having graduated.

59.....Its been over 40 years since I was in the Detective Division...We received no overtime and at times I did not see my family for days, as we went where the investigation took us which might be a plane ride away...We had bunk beds at headquarters, and at times it allowed a break...I was however compensated when subpoenaed to testified on a day off...
Its going to be a long summer...Keep us posted as to free lance practice, as to days and times...You are very good at that type information...

Greg, I agree with you about the post. And OT, keep those stories coming. The one I liked best was walking the beat on real cold days and having to check the traffic lights and when they flashed you had to go to a call box and call in. Get a lot of chuckles about that.

Worth retelling...When I was a rookie, there were radio's in Police Cars, although they were not very good, and there were locations with no reception...If we failed to received such a call, the Sgt. would holler ''I told you to stay in areas where reception is good''
As to walking posts...Walkie Talkies were unknown but no matter the weather you could not take shelter as you had to be in sight of a traffic light, as when they were flashing they wanted you and you had to go immediately to a call box...Most of the bosses were older men dating back to the 20's, and when they reamed you out, you could hear them a block away....I was better prepared then most having spent some years in the Marine Corp. and found Police Sgts. to be mild compared to a Gyrine Drill Instructor...
Remember, you guys got me started, but it is a slow Iona basketball time, so what the hell it is another Oldtimer's tale.....

Also, rumors that he had spoken with MC players about leaving with him. Maybe the missing classes were in Ethics. That would explain a lot.
