We have a stacked team with tons of potential, a loyal and talented coaching staff, an NBA prospect, an exciting brand of basketball, and are only days away from opening tip. Why are we even bringing up SJU hoops? It has no relevance whatsoever to Iona at this stage, and the only reason I can think of is that most people connected to Iona hoops still have this inferiority complex deep down with the Johnnies that they can't shake. Why else would this topic even be the slightest blip on our radar days before our first game? They got smoked by a crap team in a meaningless game. Who cares and why does this affect us? Forget SJU, forget Fordham, let's just give Iona and the MAAC our undivided attention and support. Should we forget L.I.U. also? Yes and Hofstra. And when Fordham is 9-1 against the dregs of D-1 and Braziller is raving about the Rams, forget that too. It all doesn't matter.

bill, 9-1?? Have you been drinking a lot of kool-aid recently? I'm sure that FU will benefit from a coaching change, and a cupcake OCC schedule, but someone should remind them, and you, that they lost their best player (from a terrible team).

Have you seen it? The best team they play is Manhattan. All but one game at home.

No, I don't have a hint of an inferiority complex - they sir, have a superiority complex. I just don't understand the interest in bringing them up. Seems like no matter how good we are, we always find a way to bring up SJU hoops as if it has any relevance to us. They won't play us, they are not as good as us, they are completely irrelevant this season. We have a lot of exciting stuff going on at Iona. Would rather just focus on our house until the Johnnies find a way onto our OOC schedule.

We played them 20 years ago and killed them and the only reason they even played us then was it was in the Holiday festival and they thought we were the worse team in the tourney. How can you go 2 decades avoiding the best program in the area, they truly live up to their nickname St. Chicken. And as for IC59 I disagree, if St Chicken loses we will get just as little coverage as we always get, the only way to get a bit more coverage is have a one of a kind season with just a few losses and or make the tourney and win a game or two.

Plus we have a thread dedicated to NY Hoops for guys who like to talk NY Hoops, especially during down times. Ingenious thread.

Bottom line: win the MAAC and become relevant. Simple as that.

Agree with iona05. We have exciting things with this Iona team and these other programs have no effect on this current team so I do not care. I am focusing on this team and cultivating interest among friends and family about the potential with this group. It should be an exciting ride. Everyone should focus their prayers on good health for this group. In years past we suffer at least one injury that adversely affects the team. I will be interested in how quickly the newcomers find their roles with this team. In particular Washington and Rountree as they will be asked to fill the hole left by David Laury. Expecting Isaiah Williams will be the heart of this team and doing whatever is needed from game to game to win. Hopefully his energy is contagious. Will be interested in seeing Kelvin Amayo playing under more control. I can hardly wait for the season start. Always remember that most coaches approach each scrimmage with a different objective. They serve as an opportunity to evaluate your newer or less experienced players or to evaluate whether new philosophies can be successfully implemented going into the season. "Wins" really are not that relevant.

90-58 final!!! Do you think Braziller and all the other Mullin/St. Chicken lovers in the media will tweet about this once an hour for weeks like they have of every possible recruit. I'll have a nice sleep tonight after seeing this score. Maybe it actually will be fun this season seeing the ridiculous overdone coverage we will get of a bad college basketball program. It may just be one game but after that showing if you had me place a bet on whether Mullin can coach, I would bet against it. Good Night!!! I wasn't overly surprised by this. Check out my posts on the New York College hoops thread. I couldn't understand the optimism on the three STJ boards. I didn't think it would be quite this bad, though. I knew they'd lose, but not that badly. That's because they didn't have Lovett. This guy is really good. He's like a Scott and a Momo rolled into one, except he might be an even better passer then Scott. He's the best ballhandler in STJ history, and the best passer since Mullin himself. I mean he's REALLY good!! And they didn't have him tonight. Other then him, though, we have no talent. Lavin left us with no players. None! Nobody knew Lav made a deal with Rysheed not to go to class in the Spring. No players. They had to scramble in April and May just to get a roster of players for this year. It doesn't have anything to do with CM's coaching ability. It's going to be a long and painful year for us STJ fans. Didn't mean to make your night Joe bird. LOL. Just kidding. Have fun. I predicted this last Fall. reksonn--Lovett eligibility in question? www.nydailynews.com/sports/college/chris-mullin-thinks-st-john-players-overwhelmed-article-1.2424700

St. John's loss is BAD for Iona. And for College BB in the NY Metro area. It's obvious that TAU and Reksonn should go to sleep and wake up at next Spring's signing period. Unfortunately, I'm sure that's what the local media will do, as well. And in so doing they'll miss Iona's magical season. I hope it doesn't happen, but fear it will. Go to sleep? Blow it out your ass bro.
