1970, as for attendance it certainly looked like there were a lot more at the Rider game. Heard a lot of fans asking (yesterday) where are the students. My guess would be about a 500 difference. And while there some Siena fans there, nothing like the old days. JMO. The school has to do a better job of getting students to the game, enough students live on campus that there should be more of a student presence at every game where school is in session, even when the team is not that good.

I don't agree that EJ is a complementary type player, particularly in today's version of the MAAC. He is just as talented and dangerous as any other scoring threat in the league IMO. McGill and Crawford have a chance to both be first team all maac. So to say in this league that they are complimentary players is wrong. In this bad league Iona has as much talent as anyone except Rider. I don’t think they will win the tourney this year but they do have a chance, and probably the third or fourth best chance. In Maac years past this team would have virtually no shot, but you have to look at the competition. Get this team healthy and with Cluess’s history, the Gaels will be dangerous come tourney time. I'll stick with my assessment. In years past we were fortunate to have players such as AJ, Momo, Armand, and JW. Those players could "take over" a game. The four players I mentioned are certainly vital to this teams success, but I would only give mild consideration to EJ as the only of the four that could have 3 or 4 consecutive monster games in a row in Albany. P.S. Where would this team be with Griffin and Ced? I believe we would have a minimum of 5 extra wins.

Shows how fleeting mid-major success can be. We're a couple more bad years from becoming Marist.

Shows how fleeting mid-major success can be. We're a couple more bad years from becoming Marist. Yes, we've been spoiled Guy. The frustrating thing for most of us diehard fans is just how quickly this has fallen apart. From the penthouse to the outhouse in short order. I hate to be a pessimist but I think it will take a "number" of years to turn this around, as opposed to some who feel this is a one year blip in the radar.

Time will tell, but I for one don’t expect this to be a long-term rebuild especially with Cluess at the helm.

Couldn't make the stop at the buzzer in the Monmouth game and couldn't make the big shot late in the other 3 losses. No reason to think it will take years to bounce back. Unfortunately, a perfect storm developed for this season to get to this point. -loss of Griffin -injuries/illness -couple of recruiting misses -McGill not taking the next step up. Just too much to overcome. Iona returns just as much talent next season as any MAAC program besides Rider. HUGE recruiting class coming up for '19.

Long Beach State, Columbia, and Princeton are three games that could have tipped the other way. That's why I knew the loss of Griffin was so crucial to our teams success. We have Ross coming in next season and Guy the following year. I hope and pray we can start filling the roster spots necessary to compliment EJ, Agee, and Gist.

Crawford can score with any player in the MAAC, but to get to star status he has to show he can take over a game. Crawford scored with 9:05 remaining to put Iona up 46-39. His name doesn't show up in the play-by-play again until 3:07 remaining when he made a layup to end a Siena 15-0 run that covered 6 minutes. Not even a shot, rebound. Nothing. He then played aggressive that list minute of the game getting to the line twice. Siena didn't have a player that could guard him down low. Crawford was 6-7 from inside the arc, he just can't go 6 minutes without a shot attempt. 19 points on 11 shots is a great game, but needs to be more of a force sharkey u do know Cluess took him out around 830 and left him out for a few minutes

The ESPN play-by-play didn't have the substitutions. The box on the Iona site does. Crawford was subbed out with 8:26 left and Iona up 46-39. Crawford came back in the game with 3:59 remaining and Iona down 52-46. So I have to ask the question..why would Cluess sit him so long with Siena going on 13-0 run over 4:27? That's when the game was lost.

I'm sure you would welcome him back in a NY minute if you could now.

As a fan of Iona basketball for well over 70 years and has seen well over a 1,000 games is that the basic fan base has not changed...It is composesd of students, relatives of past and present players along with the faculty...The local residence do not know we exist...I could throw a stone from my former home and break a window in Hynes and yet my neighbors never heard of Iona basketball...The local newpaper no longer features stories of a game and it would be a task to find even the score...Rare is the occassion you would meet a strange face at a IONA game....The present secret foundation of the teams news is as stagnent and tight as a rats ass and contributes little to attract new fans...All in all the IONA sport especially basketball is practically unknown outside the confines of IONA.... Would it be to much to ask the mask of secrecity be taken off IONA basketball and the world of NEW FANS be introduced to top flight college basketball...Then we can talk and think about senceable new or bigger facilities......As a added thought.....I have not seen a sold out game at IONA in years..............OT
